Well it's been progressively getting better. After new plugs, fuel filter/pump, removal of airbox, removal of FPR, removal of every seat save the drivers, removal of rev limiter (thing revs to like 9k) and removal of spare wheel, it actually goes alright. The motor is proper fucked, hence the reason we've pigged the car out, but even seeing as it's tapping it's head off and overheats with a cracked head, it still manages to go sideways and hasn't blow up yet. It's got one hell of an induction sound! I'd think a well looked after m20b20 would give a decent m20b27 a beating, and given the extra revs and whatnot, i'd probably prefer the 2 litre over its 2.7l brother.metale wrote:Looking forward to the photoshoot. Nice.
Mine is a 520i also. What are your thoughts on the engine, after some time with it?

Thanks, Chris. If you'd seen it up close, and driven it, you'd have thought otherwise. I tossed up restoring it and whatnot, but it really was not worth spending the money on, given that what it would've taken to get it legal down here was what you can buy a decent 535i for. It was only ever intended as a parts car, and it'll become one very soon.wkohler wrote:I have to admit, I thought it was a pretty nice looking car before you ruined it.
I'm not trying to pick on you, but . . .Eta power wrote:Wow, just wow.
I dunno.... I think this car is amazing any way you slice it. The pictures have that "Epic" feel to them. I wouldn't do it to my car (Except maybe the lime green wheels), but I envy the OP in that he gets to do what ever he wants to this car without having to worry about doing it "Right". I also enjoy watching his progress on this car... it looks sick (In a good way.)FABEL wrote:I'm not trying to pick on you, but . . .Eta power wrote:Wow, just wow.
what did this comment contribute or refer to, or add to the thread, or answer, or supply feedback wise?
I said wow too in my head, then I thought what was the point of doing this.
I am sure I do not know the entire background here, but hey.
I continued in the way of assuming the OP is having fun & will use it as a parts car in the future - which he stated further down, but the wow?
I wonder what that means & why it was posted. does this mean you like it, you hate it, you can't believe it, you wish yours looked like it, you respect the OP, this is now your dream setup or a nightmare to own, what!
what does wow, just wow mean?
so many things can come off wrong/ innacurate in a forum,but I want to thank you for explaining. I now know what you mean by 'wow.' to be honest, I had thought you meant it in the way of insult or looking down your nose at it.I dunno.... I think this car is amazing any way you slice it. I'm not trying to pick on you, but . . .Beyonce had the greatest album of all time...I'll clarify further;
Dear FABEL, shut the fuck up.
Damn that was pretty close to perfect. Contradict yourself a little more in the same post and I think you too can change your screen name to all CAPS.alijonny wrote:I'm not trying to pick on you, but . . .Beyonce had the greatest album of all time...I'll clarify further;

now back onto the car - why do so many people feel the need to rot out these cars or remove the possibility of restoring one day?
hell, sell these examples to me for much more than you'll be able to get once you spray wheels a JDM color & exaggerate the rust, rip out the interior & block off headlights, run drift charms - whatever those are intended for - and brag about how the car leaks oil, or is running on one piston with ticking lifters and the like.
I'm all about creativity & enjoying your car in as many ways as possible, but in this example, I just don't get it. I don't mean this disrespectfully & I'm not directly coming down on this car, I just don't understand & do not wish to be unaware to the attraction some have here.
so many times with a car like this, people will say they were just having fun & don't care about the car, but when you spend time, put in effort, & try to pull off a 'theme' of any sort, YOU DO CARE as you should. this extends even more when you line up cars & take higher end photos of them to immortalize that theme of a car, but I don't get this one too much.
I'm not saying it's subpar in any way, I just want to know if anyone cares to explain the 'it' factor here? - at least more than the 'I did it for me' mentality.
just because you can get some E28s really cheap, doesn't mean there isn't a lot of quality left in the chassis, so why remove it's ambiance or remove it's future potential to stay on the road?
just sayin' . . .
hope this isn't too harsh, but help me learn! so I'm not biased against alternative forms of quality.
& a thanks in advance gents!
