Coolant idiot light on

Washed my M5 last weekend and took it out for its first drive this year. The coolant idiot light on the overhead panel was coming on intermittently. I guess I need to replace the coolant sensor in the coolant reservoir. Is that correct? I looked at autohausAZ and found the following part (see link). Is that the correct part?

It wouldn't be an E28 without either the COOLANT or BRAKE LIGHTS ( ! ) warnings illuminated. Its part of the nostalgia.

Before you order a new one, take out your old one and clean it. Might work.

And if you get a new one, use the plastic nut from the old one. The threads are somehow shallower or different on every new one I've had(e30, e28, e24) and don't tighten up the same.

This has always been a losing battle for me. I've purchased new sensors and the problem still arises. My coolant light is always on. I'll be watching this thread to see if a solid solution to the problem surfaces. GL

Short the connector leads if the light bothers you. You'll need to check coolant level manually (visually) in that case. I believe an open circuit triggers the light, so checking for extra resistance in the circuit is where you'd want to look if you really want to fix it.
