Premium Door Tweeters

Post by AKM5 »

Help. Have'nt found answer in searches. How does the tweeter come out of the speaker housing in the premium sound system (my = M5). Appears it pushes out back to front-but I would rather use someones knowledge before I destroy my triangular housings. Few spare parts cars in Alaska.

Really? What terms did you use?

I get plenty of relevant answers when I search on "remove door tweeter." This is one of my favorites.

I searched your suggestion, and many more pages. I want to know how to remove the 1" tweeters from the triangular pillar mount. I have the tweeter assembly off the door. I am replacing the tweeter itself. They do not just pop out, even with a bit of force. I do not want to damage the pillar mount. ???

It is glued in. You have to dig it out and break it apart. Be careful, and good luck.

OHHH... I thought you wanted to remove the whole assembly and didn't understand how to do that without breaking the whole thing.

Still, you didn't tell us what you searched on (i.e. what words you used). I searched for you again and found this: http://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?t=13003 ;)

I use a heat gun to soften it up and then use a socket with a sharp tap of a hammer. About 75% of the time the tweeter has popped right out.

Thats what I needed. I missed the link you provided. now that I know they're glued I can deal with them. Had to do that to remove the clear cover on my instrument cluster to carbon fiber the face. :D

The real deal or did you use that 3M vinyl Carbon Fiber film? that stuff looks pretty convincing in small applications.

I used real carbon fiber (matte finish) thin sheets. I had to cut the clear cover off, make cardboard template, then afix carbon fiber and trim to finish fit. Then had to re-glue the clear cover.Took me hours and hours.
I had purchased a spare instrument cluster( no electrics) to use so I wouldnt ruin the one on my M5. After successfully accomplishing this, I faced the radio/climate control cluster. All in all looks damn good. I woud not want to do it again though.
