I just told a guy (doubt he is affiliated with mye28, found add on CL) I am going to buy his E28 M5 body with most everything except gauge cluster, body kit (except has rear spoiler), no rear seat (has front seats), and no drive train. Some rust and no title, but asking $300...probably take much less. I can put the M motor and stuff in it later...for now just put a G265 (with all parts) I found for $250 locally and a B35. Or just put the brakes and suspension components in my '83 528e.
I am working on a college budget so any advice would be appreciated. The guy with the M5 said he was going to scrap it if it didn't sell and I hated to think about it being crushed Bawl so I want to rescue it. Also to note, my dad is a very skilled welder and body guy so fixing rust and body wouldn't be a big deal. And we have our own shop and stuff at the house where we do our work.

Sounds like quite a project. I just emailed that guy, but you just told me what I needed to know. If it has the brakes and suspension I'd go for it. You can always decide what to do after you buy it. It sounds like it has more than $300 worth of parts on it.
Yeah I figured I could get my money out of it in parts if I decided it was too much to tackle. I had arranged to come pick it up early this week so I'll probably keep those plans. If you can tell me how to post pics on here I will post the pictures he sent me.
Actually I remembered reading it on FAQ for newbies like me. Don't have time to do all of that tonight. got a dental school interview in the morning. I should probably be doing more productive things, but I have M5 on the mind
Guy sold the car after I had already called dibs on it the day before and arranged a pick up. Somebody went there and offered him a lot more than the asking price. Oh well
