Evaporator removal..... help.

Bentley doesn't really help that much on this job.
The dash does have to be removed. IIRC there were five screws holding the unit down. Two on the side one on the front all around the lower half. Can somebody else confirm this, it's been over a year since I pulled mine and I was probably drunk(gonna be working on the parts car might as well get trashed).
There is also a stud coming up the center of the transmission tunnel. you'll have to lift it over this.

OK, dasMafia, I was just giving you $hit for the way you asked the question -- you know, you did ask a yes/no type of question!
Actually, the dash does NOT have to come out. However, the entire center console does have to come out, as well as the radio, radio surround, and upper console. Look for all the hidden screws John mentions, and don't forget to have the refrigerant evacuated first. You will have to finagle the case out of the drain hole in the tranny tunnel as well -- don't break off the drain nipple!
This IS the biggest PITA on an E28, or maybe a tie with the subframe bushings.

I have a few shots of my car when I did this last year. I found that a Stanley Wonder Bar really helped getting the evaporator drain up out of the transmission hump.
