hey im new to the forum here and i wanted to know how to fix my heater fan thing. i have no idea what its called. but the dial of 1,2,3 doesnt work but the heater still works when my car is moving. so its self ventilated. if that makes sense....

Your heater fan thing is all broke and junk.
The reason you get air movement while moving is because air is turning the cages, which blows air into the car. So, here's what you need to do:
1.) Turn on the AC switch. If it lights up and the other fan (yes, there are two) does not come on, then it's the fuse (#14). If it does come on, move to #2.
2.) Replace the blower. It's easy. 10 or so 7mm screws hold the cover to the firewall, and you'll need to look to see if you have a Behr or Sofica heater fan thing. You can get known-good, lubed units from members here for about $50 or so.
