whats the trick to keeping the rod in place on the shifting plate? I know someone here has done this. BTW, the car is an e24 635. Its got the same shifter plate as the e28 does. Thanks guys.

I've done a SS kit install on the pre '86 sheet metal shift console.

I don't understand your question, please elaborate.

You're asking how to keep the shift lever attached to the sheetmetal console? If so, there's a circlip you have to use. Should've come out when you removed the old lever.

Yes, there is a plastic cup upper washer, spring and clip. Cut the upper washer to get it around the shift ball. Don't worry as it's ultimatly held in by the circlip.
