Flattering writeup

After the recent service of my e28 M5 at La Jolla Independent, I was flattered that they did a quick writeup on their blog about my car. For those of you old enough to remember the eighties, the author made a couple of humorous references. The link to their blog is at the top of the page after following the link.

They were great to work with, did exactly what they said they would do and my car performs so well I can't imagine a more satisfactory service experience.

I had stopped by when your car was there and I must say it is one of the cleanest and nicest stock M5s that I have seen.

When I read that writeup on the 330 I was rolling on the floor laughing. It seems to me if you drop a car at a service center with no written instructions, over 60k since last legitimate service and a bottle of "piss-like" fluid mixed in with all other sorts of toxic waste I would think you probably have a little embarrassment coming your way. LOL.

If I owned a shop I would discourage these kinds of customers. Service guys I have known through the years have complained to me that cars like these (the 330) rarely develop into good customers as alot of the time they try to use the shop as a diagnoser of problems rather than a fixer. In other words, they want an "estimate" so they can then go get the parts on the cheap and the shop makes no money. I don't know if that was the case here but....

Anyway, I thought it was kindof funny but then I would never treat any car the way that person had. A criminal offense in my book........

We had an E30 one come in once and one complaint was that they could not move the passenger seat front to back. This is a common issue when the rod that goes between the tracks gets detached. Once I removesd about a large Hefty bag of beer cans and bottles from the floor, I got the ones that were jammed underneath the seat and fixed the rod that had become dislodged by beer bottles. No way that guy would ever get out of a DUI if stopped. The car smelled like a brewery all the time.

I wish I had posted pics back then, no matter how unprofessional it seems. This 330 owner would likely never become a regular Lajolla Independent customer anyway. I think I would publicly rebuke a BMW owner for treating their car that way (provided that they couldn't kick my ass.)

I don't disagree with you. The thing is that you can size up the owner pretty quickly when you see the bottles in the back and the duct tape on the window. He's a jackass for fixing the car that way, but BMW is a corporate jackass for not being able to make a functioning and reliable window regulator. Tell him at that point you're going to pass on servicing the car. Don't post photos on the web, especially if they did wind up taking money off the guy.

LaJolla Independent, and Carl Nelson, have the reputation of being the best of the best. That kind of thing sullies their reputation. Just my .02.

No, those are pictures of the original rims before I had the car detailed. I had the rims you sold me refinished, installed new tires and then they were installed on the car after the detail.

I lived in San DIego from 79 to 83. Worked in La Jolla when all the rage were leased mercedes. Didnt even know about bmw back then. In 87 bought an 85 318. We still have it along with a couple of others. Keep on truckin.
