yeah.. so i had my waterpump go out on me so i replaced all my hoses and the waterpump and replaced all 3 belts.. i just got it all back together and started the car up and i'm getting this random "grinding" sound from the power steering pump.. it seems to happen when pushing the brake pedal.. i pumped the brake pedal 5-10 times with the car off (same test as to test the brake vaccuum booster).. and fluid started coming out of the top of the PS fluid resevoir.. anyone have any idea whats causing the pump to "grind".. did it just happen to go bad while i had the belt off?
before I posted I had sucked out the fluid down to the bottom of the filter.. i left in the car and it grinded once after starting and hasnt again since.. it just seems odd to me that it would happen and all I did was put a new belt on.. the other belt was probably fine and was good and tight.. i only replaced it because i did the water pump and belt and had to take off the other two to do that one.. hopefully it wont be a problem..
this morning its making the noise whenever i move the steering wheel.. is it possible to have the belt too tight? This shit always happens at the worst time.. I need to make a 10 hour round trip tomorrow for a job interview.. I guess I'll be renting a car for the day..
My power steering pump was groaning for a while. I got sick of it. I went ahead and replaced the pump. Just my luck the groaning got worse, turns out it was that damn filter located at the bottom of the resivoir. I wouldn't worry about driving on it. I drove on mine from finger lakes NY to Mohegan Sun casino like 20 times with the pump making that aweful noise.
yeah.. i'm going to try loosening it a bit when i get home tonight.. the filter thing is new i did that about 2 months ago so unless it "collapsed" like i've read in some posts on roadfly then I think it must be related to the belt..
loosening didnt change anything... in playing with it and following the bleeding procedure in the bentley after i turn it full lock to one side it grinds every time i push the brake pedal with it at full lock.. the fluid also comes up frothy looking when i open the resevoir to look at it..
