Sway Bar Mounting Proceedure

Post by vinceg101 »

I have a question on the mounting of specifically the M5 Sway Bars, but also, in general, any sway bar. Last weekend I replaced most of the front end suspension and steering components (LCA's, UCS's, Tie Rods, Center Link, Idler Arm, and the front Sway Bar Links; struts and shocks going in tomorrow). I pre-weighted the car as recommended with about 600lbs (12-55lb bags of cement), but I couldn't get to the actual sway bar replacement last weekend so I plan on tackling both front and rears in the upcoming weekends.

My question is this: since I need to return the bags of cement soon, do I still need to pre-weight the car if I'm swapping out just the bars? It's really a matter of how much longer I keep the bags of cement at this point.

Thanks.

You only have to load the car for tightening the upper/lower control arms and only for the bolts opposite the strut on those. For the rest you don't need to load the car.

I wish I had done that to mine. Now I am looking on a new set of upper/lower control arms

Thanks Nikos, should the bars be replaced on jack stands without wheels or on ramps with wheels on?

It's irrelevant.

Jack stands without wheels will give you better access to the nuts.
