WTB: e28 in California/AZ

Post by Pink »

Hi,

I'm looking for an e28 as a daily driver. I'm not interested in eta's. 533i or 535i/is. Here is what I am looking for/would want in the car.

Here are the "must haves"

Must be 5 Speed
A/C must work
Power Steering must work and not leak
Leak free from rain/water on the external mating surfaces, weather stripping etc.
Stereo Must work and not be dodgy
All windows must roll down properly and door handle open properly
Seats must work functionally and not be super torn
All lights should work
Suspension components in average to newer shape, must not need replacing
Tires w/ at least 50% tread wear
Recaro Sport Seats
Correct wheels for the car (doesn't need to be oem, but no chrome blades ;)

Basically I don't want the car to need something that is going to keep it from driving or being comfortable for daily driving. Of course there are always little things to fix and I'm ok with that. I just want to make sure the major things are taken care of.

Here are the "would be great," but not deal breakers

Would be great if all electrical interior problems were fixed
Would be great if euro bumpers were already done
Would be great if all gaskets were replaced

Color

Red, Black, Gray, Silver, no blue no bronzit maybe white

Of course regular maintenance, records and history.

Mileage is not a factor if the car has been taken care of.

Body Condition does not have to be perfect.

I live in LA but am willing to drive anywhere in California or AZ or NV.

If you haven't guessed already, I'm not looking for a huge project. Already have too many of those. I'm looking for an enthusiast maintained e28 which only needs minimal work. I am willing to spend $4-$5k. I think that should buy a nice e28 that someone has cared for and one I can keep alive to pass on again some day.

Thanks

Pink

When I ss WTB threads like this, I think about how much I could get for mine. Could finish up the little bits, slap on some new tires, ask for two weeks off from work, and drive cross-country with the camera gear. Hmmm.

And here's Blue Shadow throwing a "stay focused" brick at me.

:brick:

So I guess this is kinda a thread jack and since this thread has no pics, here are somma mine.

She's a hawty. No?

Kind of a hefty wish list for the budget.

I looked for a few months to figure out what to price my car at and there aren't many 'is' cars for sale at any given time. Nice ones with everything working are pulling pretty big money and moving rather fast.

Look at craigslist daily as I've seen more than one steal of a car on there that a customer has come in with. Check OC, LA, PHX, SD, and LV.

Good Luck with the search!

Doesn't have to be an IS. And I think the price is totally reasonable. There are about 5 e28s around LA for about $2k but they look like they all need work. Some of them are Is' as well. There's a sweet is with an mtech body kit for $65 but it's an auto.

After I posted this up, I found everything I asked for, even spotless RECAROs ;) for $3800. Too bad its on the wrong coast. :(

i know this guy that has a 535is, lachsilber with black interior..not really needing to sell it, but he said if someone offers him $5k for it, he might let go..here is what it has as far as i can remember..

has about 180k miles, but the odometer stopped not too long ago, racing dynamics springs and bilstein shocks, euro headlights, style 5's with lips repolished, i think the A/C works, and all electricals work.

clean car, original paint, clean CA title..

Here's the one in NC. I seriously considered flying out for it. An example of just what I'm looking for.

That's a nice-looking car, but the drivers seat is trashed. It could probably be re-welded without too much trouble, though.

They're not Recaros, though. ;)

That car looks like it's worth it.

I put off selling my 88 535is and planned to put some more work in to it first. Check it out at the link below and if you're interested let me know. http://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?p=55 ... ht=#553849. I'm sure I can be persuaded to sell it now rather than later.

Looks good! If I want a red one, I know where to go. I've decided I need to sell my TT before buying anymore cars. Yes, I'm selling a TT for an old BMW. Anyone interested? Low miles aviator grey?
