Went to the local wrecker today, looking for whatever. They just got an 88 528e in, that was not overly stripped yet. I scored a perfect Hirschmann power antenna, full set of lighted window switches, fuel pump inspection cover, mirror mounted tweeters, fuse box cover, and some other small crap. I go to the counter, and the guy there knows me. He tells me to take it! FREE! He needs some upholstery work on his VW, so it will come back to me, but still, what a great day!
The car also has a perfect front fender that I need, a couple of doors I need, a crack free dash, and the shiniest rear bumper I've ever seen. I'll be going back for all that stuff as well.

Yeah, I'm going to go back and talk to him about the dash, and some body parts.
I trade LOTS of stuff for trim work. Cars, parts, you name it. My 323i is going in for minor rust repair, and a hand blocked, multi layer base/clear paint next week. Retail on the body and paint work would put it in the $6-8K range. I'm doing an interior in a 52 Chevy as trade. No complaints.

His work is top notch. He's got several of my client's cars right now. A 73 2002, an 83 VW GTI, my 323i, and a 70 2800cs after the 02 is done. He's a small, one man show, so his rates are decent, and his work is top notch. A true panel beater, and skilled metal worker. The 323i is going to be VERY nice!

Ya' gotta' love that professional courtesy, now how about a full set of custom carpets for my e30 convertible in exchange for me doing a little surgery on you, you know, everyone has extra parts they need cut off. :p

You're a surgeon, Pat? I've had my share of surgery already. I'm 29 years old, and in the past 5 years, I've had:
2 Inguinol hernia repairs
Ulnar shortening osteotomy
Ganglian cist removed from ring finger
Bi lateral micro-discectomy
Plate removed after ulnar osteotomy
In other words, I'm done with surgery! I do still have a nagging ACL in my left knee though.

Well, it ain't in the league of surgery vs. automotive bartering, but my Dad (a BMW-trained tech with his own shop*) has often done work for restaurant managers who have a certain dollar amount they can give away daily for "customer satisfaction" purposes; they'd trade tuneups/oil changes/etc. for meals for the family. For a good long while, if we went to eat dinner with my Dad & Step-Mom, we'd know exactly where we'd be going... Ryan's (an all-you-can eat place). You really couldn't beat the price!

Mesh for me. It was actually 1 hernia, started recovering nicely, and then 9 days later I was in an ambulance, headed for the hospital. Horrible pain, and weird looking junk on the ultrasound. "Groin exploration surgery" found a blood clot.

Took a tumble off a CBR900RR at 130km/h. Seemed to get through it unscathed, but wrist started aching badly after a couple years. Cracking horribly as well. 3 plastic surgeons, and 1 orthopaedic said they couldn't do anything. Enter Dr. Ken Favero. Hand surgeon up here. He sent me for a bone scan, and said "Yup, I can fix it!". He did. Still cracks like hell, but at least it doesn't hurt, and I can work out.

Yup. It was bugging me a bit, so I had Dr. Favero take it out when he removed my plate. 3 days before Xmas a couple years ago.

Not sure what caused this one, but a combination of baseball, hockey, and working out blew a couple discs. Can't remember the level, but right side had a fragment in the spinal column, and the left side was bulging badly. Lived with the pain, and lack of leg feeling for 8 months before I got to see a neurologist. After my visit with him, he was mortified by the sad condition of my back, and booked an OR 6 days later. Took 6 months to recover, and I gained 70lb. Back in the gym 5 nights per week now, and losing it again.
