I'm in the process of gathering ignition parts from the M30b35 engine for my MS intall. I was just wondering if the crank sensors used on Motronic 1.3 cars are the same between the M20 and M30 engines? I'm assuming they're the same sensors just a different wire length possibly? You can get new M20 ones on ebay for half the price of the new M30 ones so that's why I'm wondering. Here are the corresponding part numbers......same number except for the last digit.
12 14 1 720 852 - M20
12 14 1 720 853 - M30
60-2 crank sensor

my sensor is off of an M20 and plugs in the same as the M30b35. I have not verified it's operation yet, however it bolts on the b35 bracket the same. I have it this way because the e32 735 I was pulling parts from was missing the crank sensor already but had everything else so I pulled the crank sensor from an e34 525i. sorry I don't have much more info for you.
I have a very good feeling it will work fine. I would think that the only difference is the wire length. As far as the Motronic 1.3 ECUs are concerned there is almost no difference in the internal hardware (only the EPROM is different - put a 1.3 M20 chip in a 1.3 M30 DME and it will work fine or vise versa ). This would lead me to think that the VR signal inputs would need to be identical, therefore the sensors operate in an identical fashion. Whew!
