M5 just purchased now back in Abingdon, VA

Got the M5 back to Abingdon Saturday using a U-Haul auto trailer, one way. Towed fine behind my Tundra. Unloaded this morning and now residing in my garage. Will be a slow restoration as funds and time permit.
Interior needs dash (cracked), door seals and drivers seat recover. Engine will be removed to check extent of bottom end damage. Body in excellent shape.
This is my first E28 so will be asking lots of dumb questions.

Questions and help:

1. Any leads on a S38 connecting rod would be appreciated.

2. Instrument cover is cracked, can this just be replaced?

Paid $2800. I was looking at auto and 5-speed 535is's for $2000-2500 and this M5 came along so decided this was the car for me. Some of the 535is's were OK but would have needed $$ to get them to my standards. I probably paid to much but if I did not decide to rebuild engine I could always break it up for parts. Even though engine has run a big-end bearing it will not take much to get it running again.
Mileage 150K. Paint very good except for odd parking scratches, etc. No rust what so ever. Interior not perfect but once drivers seat redone will be 8 out of 10. Dash is cracked. Tires have half tread. Original car, no aftermarket accessories fitted.
Rebuilt many engines over the years, including Triumph Stag V8's, Jaguar MK2's, MGB's, Mercedes diesel but this is my first BMW.
This M5 will not be a garage queen and will be used as it was intended.

You may want to plan to change out the timing chain on the motor at that mileage and have a closer look at the guts. 150k with a spun bearing is unusual, so there may have been neglect issues with the engine. Nice snag, though.

Thanks for the comment. I have still to remove engine but dropped oil pan and pulled other rod caps and they look fine. Camshafts, buckets, chain, etc also look like new with minimal wear. Plan to renew chain, tensioners, etc with rebuild.
