Now, that I agree with. Finding non-biased media is nearly impossible, so it's important to understand what you're watching and filter it appropriately.

please note that ANY american newspaper is already biased. Believe it or not there are other viewpoints out there besides the two US parties....

There is a whole lot of middle ground out there.. Dont get too caught up in "rah rah USA" vote for the world, not for yourselves.

Not so fast. As cited here
Quirk's Exception: Intentional invocation of this so-called
"Nazi Clause" is ineffectual.

Sorry, folks. Nice try, though.

When asking I had no idea that I would get so many responses to my question. All I have to say is that I like polar bears and other wild animals and this lady wants to shoot them from the air. She also believes that strip mining is a good thing. As a person who likes the great out doors I hope that the Caribou Barbie gets to go back to Alaska a be a Governor there where a large part of the land is controlled by the Federal Government and out of her reach.

Be prepared for a filthy campaign. I'm not necessarily looking forward to it, but it's already started. The Arizona Republic today had an article bashing her beliefs on "earmarks" and it wasn't in the Opinion section. It was right next to the convention coverage.

Oprah, the woman who got the Obama train rolling, refused to have her on the show, despite a good portion of her staff suggesting it, citing that she doesn't want to become a showcase for political platforms.

Also, the Obama campaign has attempted to "dispatch" Hillary and she said no.

I think they're a little concerned. And people think we're comparing Obama to Palin.
I heard about that Oprah BS.

I think people are going to vote for palin in hopes of Mccain dying of somehow.
If people are stupid enough to want a 20-month governor with no experience outside of a 600,000 population state running the country, then they deserve what they get.

She's a hypocrite on earmarks, hiring a lobbyist as a mayor and bringing in $27 million in project money to her town of (then) about 6,000. She ran for gov. on a platform of building the "Bridge to Nowhere," then came out against it after Congress had all but pulled the plug. She kept the money for other uses in the state, of course. Not exactly "Thanks, but no thanks." She inquired about banning books that she found offensive when she became mayor. She's being investigated for abuse of power as governor.

Attractive is a quality that means nothing; I don't know why people latch on to that. It doesn't take much reading to figure out that she is smart enough only to say what people want to hear, and to do only what will advance her own position. Her mockery (and Giuliani's) of Obama's community service was deplorable, particularly given the emphasis on 'service' at the RNC the previous evening. To openly mock someone who, despite a top-notch education, went to work for low pay on behalf of the poor is just very poor form. So much for her being a Christian, loving her neighbor, etc.

I really can't tolerate hypocrisy, and our would-be leaders seem to display it in spades.

1. I make spelling errors. Sorry. I'm sure you have as well at SOME point in your life. I'm sure Shawn D. has as well ;) . I do correct them when I notice them. I am very well educated, but I am also human. God forbid I spell something wrong every so often. My typing, now... that sucks.
OK; fair enough on the spelling error. No more will be said about it. You are usually exemplary.
2. About my avatar, it stays. Look at another thread on the forum and you will see see an avatar that has a curse word in it as well. I am not the only one. If you don't like it, guess what: don't look at it.
I not only like it, I think it's hilarious. But it means I can't let my 11-y-o daughter read your stuff. It means that if you were her teacher, I might have a stronger word with you. That is all. As I said, 'discretion'.
While you may want to paint everyone who disagrees with you as a "liberal Democrat"...

Not everyone who disagrees with me are liberal democrats. I never said that. There are conservative democrats and liberal republicans that disagree with me too. Also I do agree with some people (who may be liberal AND democrat) about certain issues. So what was the point in saying that??
Well, you were the one who interpreted my criticisms as complaining that you weren't the worst thing you can think of - a liberal democrat - when in fact they had nothing at all to do with political positions.

What really set me off was your suggestion (that I still hope was a joke) that you'd want Sarah Palin as president. With what we know about her after just one week, (and consciously invoking Godwin's Law of Internet Arguments) that's like saying Hitler would be a good president because he built good roads and wore snappy uniforms ...
It was a joke in a way. The only reason why I would agree with her being president is that I agree with many of her ideological viewpoints. How she HANDLES them is a whole different ballgame. She could be balls-ugly for all i care! :puke: I don't know if I would compare her to Hitler (unless she supports abortion, but that's a can of worms I'd rather not discuss here).

I'm glad you like the avatar. I'm sorry that it is not safe for little eyes. I am using a measure of discretion, beginning with how I speak here in the forum when I get riled up.

And thank you on my "exemplary" spelling. It's my typing that sucks, not my grammar or understanding of the English language.

Overall, C.R., is that politically we have different views. But I don't want it to get in the way of hopefully one day meeting you in person and throwin' down a few shots of whatever-we're-in-the-mood-for!!!! :alright:

I think this below will explain her Christianity. ;)
Christianity began as a Jewish sect[9][10] in the eastern Mediterranean and by the 4th century had become the dominant religion within the Roman Empire.
The Roman Empire is the post-Republican phase of the ancient Roman civilization characterised by an autocratic form of government and large territorial holdings in Europe and around the Mediterranean. The term is used to describe the Roman state during and after the time of the first emperor, Augustus.
Jesus was then put on trial by Jewish authorities to determine whether his guilt, in their eyes, justified handing him over to the Roman Governor Pontius Pilate with their request that the Roman Empire put Jesus to death on popular demand from the people.

Therefore, she is only saying and doing what the spirits of the Rome Empire (Republican Party) expect of her.

she's not the lipstick on the pig.

She's McSame's blowjob to the bible thumpers. A cynical and calculated move by the guy who famously said:

"Neither party should be defined by pandering to the outer reaches of American politics and the agents of intolerance." (specifically referring to Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell) during a debate with W in 2000.

I'd rather through dollars than votes. 2yrs Governor's experience (in Alaska at that) does not a Vice President make. Foolish attempt to attract the female vote,IMHO. She's not of the caliber or expertise of Hillary. Better looking, yes. Have you ever thought how she will handle the foreign diplomats of countries where women are second and third class citizens. This country needs help in a quick way, not on the job training. All of the candidates lie and make wishful promises. The key is to pick the side that will do the least harm. The balance of this country rests on the ideals of the two promenent and different parties and it's time for the pendulum to swing in the direction of home or we'll be sold out to the point of you and I answering the phone and the cutomers asking for someone who speaks broken english.

i dont need to stir the pot, and most of the points I would have made have been said, but she really is the least qualified person possible for the presidency. thank god obama is ahead.

I swear, if the country is filled with enough ignorant, simple or just plain uneducated people as to elect the least qualified party, that has begun to lie (anyone remember the RNC, screaming about getting the liberals out of the white house? wtf???), im moving. I'd rather go to germany, or somewhere in europe. I hope that enough of the educated populace follows suit. if this country is truly that shortsighted, it deserves to lose its skilled workers.

oh, and food for thought:

Most of you will dismiss this as conspiracy theories, but honestly, if you cant dispute the facts then dont bother saying its a lie. I'm sick of hearing people say things without facts, and assume that because its been said its a truth. (I provided facts, but if you can disprove this, I would love to hear it.)

Your "food for thought" is indeed more conspiracy theory BS. That "article" cites DailyKos and PDiddy as sources? You provided facts? Laughable. Double- Oh, wait a minute -- even DailyKos is saying it's BS now: http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/ ... 017/581734 Trig Pailin's intelligence > conspiracy theorists' intelligence.

Note that this post of mine does not constitute vouching for the McCain/Palin team. I've just as readily called folks out for repeating the "Obama is a Muslim" rumor.

Food for thought from the NY Times?

WHERE DID OBAMA'S MONEY COME
FROM???????

Subject: New York Times Editorial By
MAUREEN DOWD

Published: June 29, 2008

OBAMA'S TROUBLING INTERNET FUND RAISING
Certainly the most interesting and potentially devastating
phone call I have received during this election cycle came
this week from one of Obama's campaign internet geeks.

These are the staffers who devised
Obama's internet fund raising campaign which raised in the
neighborhood of $200 million so far. That is
more then twice the total funds raised by any candidate in
history and this was all from the internet campaign.

What I learned from this insider was
shocking but I guess we shouldn't be surprised that when
it comes to fund raising there simply are no rules that
can't be broken and no ethics that prevail.
Obama's internet campaign started out innocently enough
with basic e-mail networking, lists saved from previous
party campaigns and from supporters who visited any of the
Obama campaign web sites. Small contributions
came in from these sources and the internet campaign
staff were more than pleased by the results.

Then, about two months into the campaign
the daily contribution intake multiplied.
Where was it coming from? One of the web site security
monitors began to notice the bulk of the contributions
were clearly coming in from overseas internet service
providers and at the rate and frequency of transmission it
was clear these donations were 'programmed' by a very
sophisticated user. While the security people were
not able to track most of the sources due to firewalls and
other blocking devices put on these contributions they
were able to collate the number of contributions that were
coming in seemingly from individuals but the funds were
from only a few credit card accounts and bank electronic
funds transfers. The internet service
providers (ISP) they were able to trace were from Saudi
Arabia, Iran, and other Middle Eastern
countries. One of the banks used for fund
transfers was also located in Saudi Arabia Another
concentrated group of donations was traced to a Chinese
ISP with a similar pattern of limited credit card
charges. It became clear that these
donations were very likely coming from sources other than
American voters. This was discussed at length within
the campaign and the decision was made that none of these
donations violated campaign financing laws. It
was also decided that it was not the responsibility of the
campaign to audit these millions of contributions as to
the actual source (specific credit card number or bank
transfer account numbers) to insure that none of these
internet contributors exceeded the legal maximum donation
on a cumulative basis of many small donations.
They also found the record keeping was not complete enough
to do it anyway. This is a shocking
revelation. We have been concerned about the
legality of 'bundling' contributions after the recent
exposure of illegal bundlers, but now it appears we may
have an even greater problem. I guess we
should have been somewhat suspicious when the numbers
started to come out. We were told (no proof
offered) that the Obama internet contributions were from
$10.00 to $25.00 or so. If the $200,000,000 is
right, and the average contribution was $15.00, that would
mean over 13 million individuals made
contributions? That would also be 13 million
contributions would need to be processed. How
did all that happen? I believe the Obama
campaign's internet fund raising needs a serious, in depth
investigation and audit. It also appears the
whole question of internet fund raising needs
investigation by the legislature and perhaps new laws to
insure it complies not only with the letter of these laws
but the spirit as well.

IS IT RIGHT FOR FOREIGN COUNTRIES TO
HAVE AN INVESTMENT IN WHO BECOMES OUR NEXT PRESIDENT???

Your planes to France and Germany are waiting gentleman, don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.

Didn't think so! You didn't sound like a quitter to me, frustrated perhaps, but aren't we all to some degree?

This will be a wait and see election. Certainly if either ticket begin to screw things up, I believe the public will not take the wait and see approach it has with the last two administrations.
The last 16 years have had a devastating effect on this country and it's people.
Which ever ticket wins, along with congress & senate, they better have their collective heads out of their asses, or they might just have their heads handed to them, by the patriots of this country.

And so you'd rather have the government tell you who your doctor is going to be instead of getting a health plan in order to choose your doctor? I'm sorry but my wife has an amazing OBGYN Dr. and if the government tried telling us what doctor she would have... knowing our luck we would have someone who failed med-school. (Remember the family guy episode, anyone?)

They are only directed toward you if you wanna move away. Also, I'm not talking about small business. I'm talking about the average working man. Small business gets the shit taxed out of them both here and everywhere else. Sorry I don't wanna pay extra to have the government tell me what I need to do. Guess what that's called.... ding ding ding!!! That's right.... SOCIALISM!!!!! What does he win, Johnny?

Just a little FYI,

There are no failed med-school doctors in the NHS in the western european countries, the standards are just the same as here. You also get to chose which practice you go to and there is also the option to go private for all you go it aloners. As strange as it may seem there is not security guard at the entrance to the doctors sending you to see whoever they happen to chose that day.

Oh, and it would appear the almighty evil that is Socialism is alive and well on these shores providing you are in the financial sector.

OK back to your regular scheduled partisan rantings folks.

What's more sad is that the "socialist" tendencies here only spread out the bad parts of the economy. Someone with whom I often disagree politically phrased it very well: "Private profit and public debt." I don't think the financiers should get it both ways. And to think some Republicans are against limiting executive pay for companies who take the PUBLIC'S MONEY to bail them out of their hole ... shameless.

As for doctor choice, most private insurers (what we would all be on with McCain's plan, unless you already have workplace insurance) do select what doctors you can see. It's incredibly difficult to lobby for selecting your own surgeon or anything like that. HMOs and PPOs killed medical care in this country. The insurance companies must love McCain's plan; they get to charge the higher individual rates for lower coverage vs. what large employers can negotiate for thousands of employees. There's no easy answer here; government health care can work but given the insurance industry structure here, it's unlikely to be successful. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

This isn't true regardless of who you have health insurance with. You always have the choice to seek care out of network, however that choice will cost you more out of pocket. I've personally made the choice on a couple of occassions because I want the best care available, and I'm willing to pay for it. As far as a universal government healthcare plan is concerned, I've already endured it. I was a Army brat and also spent 6 years in the USAF. If the civilian socialist equivalent is as bad as what I endured for nearly 18 years, I don't want it.

Our neighbors to the north, Canada, has socialized healthcare. My understanding is you can wait months to get access to basic diagnostic procedures and treatments, while in the US you have almost immediate access t the same treatment. There are plenty of stories that have been told by people who paid out of pocket for treatment in the US, that wouldn't be here today if they waited for treatment in Canada. At M. D. Anderson we treat patients from all over the world. Many of these patients have access to some form of socialist healthcare system, but either treatment isn't available, they've been rejected due to a government cost benefit ratio, or they would have possibly died waiting in line. So instead they often times pay out of their own pocket for treatment in the US.

Although there are many things about the our healthcare system I don't agree with, or care for, the pharmaceutical companies in particular. I still believe we have the best healthcare system in the world.
