hello..im new to this and looking to buy a bmw td524 from someone here in the states ..apparently it is a european model as i cannot find much on it with the VIN..
is there somewhere besides autocheck to look these things up....at autocheck it says nothing about the year or make
im confused as I thought they only made 524td in 85 and 86
can anyone draw any light on this for me..am i buying a true 524td..it has 228,000 miles or kilometers..i have no idea
what im doing..also is there issues registering a european bmw here in the states? any help is appreciated on whether i should buy this or wait...
did 524td exist in 1984?

As long as the owner has a valid title, you shouldn't have any issues. It will likely have a notation of "grey market" on the title, since the VIN won't sync up with the US database. You may have to send in a copy of the title to your insurance company to verify the VIN also, since it will likely come up as invalid.
Yes, there were 524td models sold in Europe in many other years, 85 and 86 were just the only years they were sold in the US. There is no reason I could think of not to buy a Euro 524, as they come with the much better looking small bumpers and don't have the stupid EGR setup that the US cars have. It should be lots peppier. It also could have a manual trans, which the US cars were not offered with as well...

was worried some as the car had no markings saying its a 524td
except from the obvious diesel engine...
i was able top bring up the vin via autocheck so i am not 2 concerned about registering it
apparently the owner brought it to canada first from romania of all places..hes says its always been well maintained
ive been talking to his wife as hes traveling now and altho I thought it imght be manual also havent asked yet.....fiquring on 4000 dollars for it..is that a decent price for one with 228,000 kilo?

euro td vs domestic td?
in a dilemma maybe
was going to buy a euro bmw 524 for $3500
but nopw havinging second thoughts as there is a imported version around i can get hold of also
issue really is this
the 84 ive had my mechanic look at..check outs engine wise. 234 km automotic on engine but going to need tires rear springs, struts all around, stabilizer links, pitman,mounts, front brakes etc..
probably would have bought it already as has the smaller bumpers bigger headlight but also when i saw it discovered
it had no power windows or more important no air conditioner.
big bimmer bummer for me..but in other respects as so unusual
as this is definitely a working mans bmw no frills cloth seats which made me appreciate it none the less..
but now for about same money can buy a 85 domestic 524 that i cannot look at in san diego...leather seats no rips supposely, 140,000 miles, air and power of course...sight unseen only way to do it...
so which do i go for the euro working mans or the domestic frills? if i go for the working mans can i put power windows and air conditioning into it easily? or best to leave it alone?
