I`ve got big problems.
I`ve got big problems.
I get the donor car home today(84 m6 ) and everyone is very much against chopping it up and swapping it all out into my 85 535. My wife thinks I`m a complete idiot to ruin a pissed off sexy looking car like the m6. She thinks that the 535 looks like something Poindexter would drive. Heres the deal would you take a perfectly good euro m6 black with tan interior gold style 5`s and a full ground effects kit, tear the car completely down use what I can then sell the rest. Your opinion would be appreciated. . And another problem is the 535 is in excellent condition so the argument there is why do you want to take out all the effort that has gone into that car. Thanks.

Yes it`s a serious post.as strange as it sounds. The thing is I got the M6 with 136,000 miles with know history for $2000 and yes I`am still serious. So the future value is not important but how rare the car is bothers me a little. I do not how many grey market early M cars are here. This car was imported buy a local doctor who sold it to one of my friends in 1992. I spent time driving the car for about two years, I was twenty at the time. My friend sold it to a local collector who then sold it to his brother in law. His brother in law traded the car to a guy about thirty miles from me for a Mustang, that`s right for a mustang. The guy that now had the car could not get it running. It`s amazing what a new rotor and cap will do for a car, problem solved. The car needs seats, paint and a dash. The timing chains and hardware were done 30,000 miles ago and the clutch about 12000 miles ago. It had a new transmission put in it in 93 when my friend owed it. But the thought of that motor and drive in the old five I would like to see. Thats the only reason I bought the car. Then when it`s at the house and there side by side I never noticed how much bigger the 6 looks next to the the 535. Even when I was a kid I always liked the M5 the most.
You know, many people will think that you're nuts, but I understand. I'm still going to recommend you leave the 6er be.
My dad has an M635csi, and there are a LOT more of them than Euro M5s. Your 535i with a transplant will not be an M5. There are a lot of ways for you to spend money and transform the performance of the 535i, and I'd argue for any of them. Having driven all kinds of E28s and E24s, I just like the way the E28s drive. The only exception is the M635csi. It drives much better than the US cars. It was known as the German Ferrari of its day, and I think you would do very well to restore it with paint and interior work. It sounds like the mechanicals are in good shape. Whatever you do, good luck with your project!

LEAVE THE E24 ALONE!!!!!!
Definately keep the E24, your 535 is just a 535 and will never be anything more no matter what you do to it. The E24 is an M6, always be an M6, original super coupe. It has meaning in the BMW M development section, and will hold some value. And its a euro.
So, leave the poor thing alone!

Just put an M10 in the 535i and be done with it. You'll thank yourself later.
And yes, you do have big problems if you want to take apart a relatively low-mileage, running car with real heritage to make a bastard car that will have every prospective buyer doubting your abilities and wondering where you cut corners with the swap.

Exactly. You should be able to flip the M6 for some decent cash and buy a nice M5 with the proceeds.Matt wrote:If you've got a Euro M6 that runs well and has a good body, someone will give you a _real_ USA M5 in trade that you can just leave alone instead of dicking with swapping stuff into a 535i.
My two regular drivers are my high mileage 535i and my low mileage M6. Each has it's own personality and each is fun to drive but I do think an M5 is altogether different again. I don't think you would get that rying to do what you describe. I think you would have hundreds of hours of work and still have problems.
Better to put all that effort into having two unique cars and keep them both. My vote is keep both cars and that way one can always be laid up for repairs and upgrades while the other is roadworthy. What you describe might end up with two cars, neither roadworthy, and then the mrs. will really be uptight.

Why did you get a Euro M6 for only $2k? what's wrong with it?
The car was in this guys yard and he could not get it to run. It needs some paint there is some rust around the windshield and the back glass but not much. The front seats are in need of recovering the dash is cracked of coarse. I started messing with it today. The injectors were leaking so I put in new O rings. And found that one of the vacuum lines had broken it broke very close to the firewall so it was hard to see. I caped the lines just to get it to run. Sure enough the motor started up and ran pretty good. It still will not idle but I think the guy that had the car replaced the mass air with a used one. I have the original so I will replace it. It is a 136,000 mile driver that needs some love.

That wouldn't happen to be R. Finger's, would it? I know he has had (and still does) a large collection of the years of toys.
Is it white? (Their was also a black one in Savannah but I think that one sold).
No it was not Dr fingers car I wish it was though it would be a 100 point car.
If I wanted to make some money I would cut the car up sell the pieces. I do`nt think anyone on here is putting all the money and time in an e28 for the resale value. You guys are right it is a great car and I will not part it out. If anyone`s interested I would trade it for an M3 any year as long as it`s a manual. Thanks for the incite.wkohler wrote:Just put an M10 in the 535i and be done with it. You'll thank yourself later.

There never was a euro "M6", the euro version of the North American only M6 was the M635csi.johnnye23 wrote:Okay I am not understanding this. You said you had a Euro M6 you were going to remove the drive line and install in your 535i.Now you have posted a E24 For Sale and it's listed as an m635, what is it you have ? Good luck with the Sale Btw looks to be a nice car.
