Excellent! I think the first thing to do is increase the A/R of the turbine housing. This will let it breath easier on the top end. You can also go to a 50 trim compressor wheel. This will increase lag, but also increase the amount of boost and top end and efficiency.

For intercooling, I'm not sure if water to air or air to air is better. With water to air, you might heatsoak. Since you're moving all the time, air to air might be your best bet.

Edit: If you want crazy power, get a disco potato and talk to them crazy Swedes.

I'm not sure but I think the TD uses a "T3" turbo, you can bolt every "T3" turbo to this manifold. T3 is the size of the flange of the turbo-->manifold. There are also adapters to fit a T4 turbo on a T3 manifold.

I also would look for bigger injectors. I dont know wich injectors you need but for Cummins diesel you can choose from many powerlevel injectors.

I don't think that the Swedes changed any injector sizes, just the pump head and other pump tweaks to make stupid power.

The turbine and wheel are the first thing. The stock compressor isn't even a restriction at the stock power levels. I have read on this forum that US spec 524's already have a 50 trim T3 compressor.

The .36 AR turbine housing and micro-wheel are the first problem. I think a .48 and a more reasonably sized wheel would help.

The fuel pump is the same one as you'll find in many large turbo diesel truck applications. Theres a lot of info out there on increasing the fuel output.

The first generation Dodge Ram Cummins used the same VE pump as the E28 TD. The guys at the Cummins forum said that there is not a lot to do with this pump. If you want alot more fuel you need injectors.
See this article about the VE pump:

I had a E12 swapt with a TD and I turnt this screw and block the wastegate. It had some more power but alot.

hey guys, thanks for the info, that link to the other thread was really helpful. I think for the first race about the only mod will be an airr to air intercooler, I have a deadline and the car was actually a bare tub without a single bolt in it last week, currently it rolls and has a rollbar installed. The engine is on the ground, doing the timing belt/waterpump tomorrow and the oil pan/gasket/rear seal thursday. I am using e30 euro 323 mount brackets with 633 mounts, the flywheel is an 82 528e, which I think weighs 12 lbs and is the same as an e30/323 euro. The trans is a Bavaria 4 speed on a 82 528e bellhousing, I may go to 5 speed... right now the car has a 2.93 LS, was thinking of going to a small diff as I have to really cut the weight down, the lowest numerical ratio I have is a 3.45...I may also try a euro 323i e21 4 speed as it is really light. I am going to weigh out some e30 318/m10 trailing arms to see how much lighter the drum brakes are than the disc...if it is 5lbs a side I may go with them. I have an Afco aluminum radiator to try to keep things cool, I am running a small late e30 starter and probably a geo metro altenator to try to save some weight off the left front. I am getting rid of the ABS for now to save weight also.

I appreciate any idea's

Thanks

WTF are you building Al? Inquiring minds want to know.

I tracked down a E12 M20 sub with Sam S. Was he the one you had in mind?

Hope to see you in Ashevegas later this year.

Hey Mark

Yep, Sam in Mayodan?? man, I continue to drop the ball anytime we talk about parts...sorry about that, I will bring you that e12/24-motronic pedal box to Erik's.

I am building an e30/318 convertable race car with a Td motor, the car will eventually be street legal, as I am pushing alt fuels, it doesnt make sense to have to tow with a rig, I will probably run it at VIR for the most part but am taking up to Mid Ohio to the NASA Nationals next month, it is a GTS 1 class car.
