Cleaned & painted hood insulation.

Hey guys, someone asked me to post pics of my cleaned and painted hood insulation a few weeks ago. I can't find original post so here it is. I just washed it with Simple Green and painted it with high temp flat black engine paint. It's been months and so far it's still holding up well.

I removed my insulation years ago because it was sagging and hitting the throttles. I'd love to refurbish it and reinstall.

I remember discussing this with you at 5er Fest, so I took mine and placed it back in the engine bay. I have all the clips, and they all hold, but the material has definitely stretched a little over the years. My plan is to use some temp resistant double-stick tape in small pieces to hold the sagging bits up after I clean and spray the cover.

Reviving this thread from the dead. I’m found one of these hood pads locally, but it doesn’t come with anything to mount to the hood. 

Anyone know what’s needed to mount it up?

Also do the 3 foam pieces, that are originally under the hood, need to be removed?

Yes remove the foam. Don’t have to clean down to paint but you don’t want the crumbling foam to push the sheet into the motor and such. 

The parts needed are in realoem, pins and expanding receivers with large tops to hold at each hole in the cover. Probably a 1-1/2” square coated foam with a cardboard base, push pins included that goes across the front edge, too.

Thanks for the info. RealOem shows the rivets as no longer available. They don’t even list them in the parts list. They’re greyed out in the picture. I’ll figure it out once I receive the part. 

I’ll definitely remove the old foam pads. I checked them out this morning and it basically disintegrates when I touch it. It’s got to go.

Ebay, Amazon, there's lots of possibilities that might be able to be made to work. Not necessarily concours level, but plenty good enough for my friends in the E28 world.
