Dispute with ElGuappo RESOLVED

Post by ismellfish2 »

I bought a set of e32/e34 big brakes from ElGuappo (Jay) maybe 4 or 5 months back. I paid him via PayPal. I then waited and waited for the brakes. Every time I emailed him and asked what the deal was, he'd email me back saying that he hadn't had time or didn't have money to ship. 45 days went by so I filed a PayPal dispute before I lost the option to do so. A couple more weeks went by, and I finally got the brakes in the mail just a couple of days before I would have been forced to escalate the dispute or drop it.

A couple months went by before I tried to install the new brakes, since I was working on an engine swap. I bought new rotors and pads from Steve Haygood, the vented e32 fronts and the vented e34 rears. When I went to put it all together I discovered that the rear calipers I had been sent were the wrong ones, as discussed in this thread. Jay PMed me the following on May 21:
That appears to be my mistake and I will make it right.

I have a set of 540 calipers I recently got, I can send them out to you Friday.
I can include an addressed Fedex label for you to return the calipers you have.

Does that sound alright?

Jay3
I replied saying thanks, and he replied:
No worries mate.
My rep on the board is worth alot to me, and I made an honest mistake. Its just the right thing to do.

Thanks for the address again, I should be able to get those out Friday.

Take it easy.

Jay3
I have no complaints about that. However, it hasn't happened. In response to my PM asking where they were, I got this on June 8th:
Will,
I was not able to get them out to you before the Fest, I am sorry.
I should be able to get them out tomorrow.

Jay3
I sent another PM June 18th, which I never received a reply to. At this point I don't see that I have any options open to me besides posting this. I've tried to keep this entirely factual. I hope he'll come through eventually, but I've been more than patient and I'm sick of waiting.

I'm now going to have to reinstall the stock brakes so I can drive the car, then I'll have to take them back off to add the rears and rebleed the system and all, which is a pain in my ass.

Will,
I sent you a message LAST NIGHT, obviously you neglected to check your inbox before posting this thread. Thanks.

BTW, it was alot longer ago than 4-5 months, try last August when you bought the brakes. Many sellers would have told you to sod off after all this time, I am still willing to make sure you get what you originally paid for. I got the shaft in the first place when I bought a large group of calipers(that were not right on several sets), Tyler also got some 540i rears from me that turned out to me 'normal' E34 rears, and we were able to take care of it without all this public drama.

Now that this is public, the Fedex tracking # will be posted here for all to see and follow.

Have a nice night. :(

sizes

Post by alpinass »

SIZE does count. Each caliper is cast the diameter of the caliper.

The correct rear's are 40/300 cast in each rear caliper.

750/740/540 fronts are 60/302 in each front caliper.

The rear's are the one's that folks are getting confused with.

The E34 540i and E34 M5 came with the 40/300 rear's.

Checkout this site it has helped me clear up confusion in the past.

Will,
Fedex tracking # 8635 9188 6528 dropped off today, sent Express Saver (3 business Day)- the doofus at the counter informed me however that even at 12:30 it will not go out till tomorrow. Thats what I get for not taking it to the Fedex/Kinkos I guess.

Please post back in this thread when you receive the calipers.
They ARE indeed the 540i rears, with the '40/300' engraved on the caliper body.

Thank you all for viewing the drama today.
I now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

Jay3

P.S., I REALLY wish this site used (like I asked quite a while back) a 3rd party rating/ranking site for buyer/seller feedback like Heatware or beerology. The buyer/seller feedback thread is a mess and I don't know how we are supposed to really use it.

Would someone please tell me WTF this thread got moved to the General Conversation area, instead of the For Sale forum where it nominally belongs?

Paging a Beamter ASAP please.

More people read the General Conversation section. That is a good section to air out "Open dispute” so we all can be aware of who ever is the person(s). ;)

I see nothing for sale and nobody looking to buy something. This thread does not belong in the classifieds forum, and General Conversation is the only place it fits.

Sorry, Jay.

There is another open dispute which has no parts actively advertised or requested, residing in the For Sale/ Wanted section currently. These "open dispute" threads are best served there since they serve the same function as the buyer/seller feedback thread, in essence. my .02

So why have none of the other threads ever been moved then?

Why do I get to be the first to get this kind of 'exposure'?

Thanks

This my take on the situation also. This thread should be back in the For Sale / Wanted area.

An undeniable fact. Otherwise it becomes a true spectator sport/bloodbath.

Jay, you weren't singled out, I simply never saw the other. Despite what people may think, I do not have time to read every single post. Yours happened to be at or near the top when I viewed that forum I guess, no conspiracies. I'll move this one back now, though it makes no sense to me.

I guess I need to start moving threads such as these from General Conversation to the classifieds section? Cause they've been there as well. Makes no sense to have them scattered all over the place.

Thanks Jeremy.

As stated above, you serve even in not understanding, but listening to the wishes of the user group.

The calipers arrived at my parent's house, and my dad confirmed that they have 40/300 cast into them. Thanks for getting those out Jay, and I'm changing the name of the thread to reflect this having been resolved.
