This BMW car has been in the family since brand new. It is a white 535is with 5 spd transmission. The car and engine are in good condition with 140,000 miles on the car. It was purchased by uncle, then went to my older brother, than my mother needed a car, so he sold it to her about a year ago. It was driven up until that point. She let it sit for about 9 months and now it needs to have tubes and hoses replaced. I personally have driven the car many times when my brother had it and it drives excellent. Unfortunitely was neglected for about a year and now needs some small repairs to be the awesome machine it once was. THe paint and body are beautiful. Inside is blue leather with all options. Flew to Spokane and drove to Coeur D'alene (20 miles)to see this car, brought tools to try to get running and drive back to PDX.
Friend of seller was jumping battery to get car started when I arrived. Owner said it had been leaking fuel the last time it was started. Got it started and saw fuel spraying near middle of the fuel rail, turned out to be a loose cold start fuel line. Took awhile to reattach the line and got the car to idle. Smooth idle and no more leaking. Next tried to inflate 2 flat tires, left rear would not hold air, owner had tire store look at tires previously and was told tires ok (though very little tread left), but wheels (15 inch) had areas of peeling chrome and the wheels are the problem. Decided to put spare on (worn TRX) but some funky size wheel bolts were used on chrome peeling wheel, did not have anything to take the flat wheel off (larger than 19mm). In the meantime, engine was idling to charge battery, and coolant was leaking down the parking lot. Top radiator hose (looks original) was spewing coolant at the thermostat. Decided to pass on the car. Other issues, Very dirty engine compartment, dirty interior, dash cracks, wiper motor in trunk, stiff clutch pedal(broken bracket?), broken cigarette lighter housing, upper vent control not fully opening, missing most tools, no rear muffler, body straight but parking lot dings, oxidized white paint. Obvously couldn't take for a drive.

Wasn't a totally wasted day. The weather was beautiful and I stopped at the casino by the airport waiting for the flight out. I paid for the one way ticket back to Portland after 30 minutes at the craps table.

Kudos Bill! Even though the e28 you inspected sounds like it was a bit rough around the edges, it sounds as if you had a fun (& winning) day.
