Injection Pump Timing Tools

Post by bashibazouk »

Please excuse me for having the over-enthusiastic zeal of the newly religious, but I have had an epiphany.

Namely, after six months of my td not running or running like crap, spending two weeks at the local dealer (desperate error) and generally annoying the snot out of me-- it's fixed!

I dorked up the timing belt installation when I redid the head and the cam timing was off anyway. Plus the fact that the injection pump was set way out of whack ! It's a wonder the thing ran at all. Lots of black smoke-- well, actually white smoke on startup, then black when it got warm. Hard starting. No power. Bad ju-ju.

I ordered an adapter for a dial indicator from etool.com (actually for VW injection pumps). It didn't fit my Chinese DI (not drill instructor) so I had to turn the barrel of the gage down to fit. I've made a copy of the adapter-- almost. Waiting for my M8X1.0 die to thread the business end. Here's a side-by-side:

If got a proto cam lock built and am waiting on some more measurements of the locking pins. I'd like to put together a complete kit, if there's interest. I'm building this stuff in my back yard shop on an old South Bend lathe so the production rate won't be huge. Takers?
