I emailed the seller about this turd when he had it for sale one of the previous times, indicating that it might be a bit overpriced. He basically laughed at me and said that I obviously could not afford his car anyway. I told him good luck with the sale, but he would not be getting $20k for it. Appears he still hasn't....
1988 BMW ///M5 3.5L L6 Engine 256HP, RWD 5spd manual Transmission, Sunroof, Power seats, Front Heated Seats, 4-Door SUV
SUV?????? does that mean i can take my M5 off road?
I called today to see if they were serius about price, and i quote
"this car is 1 of 10 left in the country". I had to response to that.
Anyway,it should be in the back of Autoweek under that immortal glassy eyed thing on the last page.

Black on black M5s from the factory were quite rare in the North American market. I don't know the VIN runs to confirm whether that's one of the them.BimmerKid wrote:I called today to see if they were serius about price, and i quote

What ARE those odd things covering the center sections on the front seats, anyway?? I'd say they were weird center section only seat covers . . . but the passenger side one looks like it has seems that match the original. Very, very odd.

BMW NA sold those covers as "seat vests" for those who did not want the whole form-fitted sheepskin seat covers. It just kept you from freezing or burning your backside.Jeremy wrote:BimmerKid wrote:IBlack on black M5s from the factory were quite rare in the North American market. My memory of events from twenty years ago isn't what it was but to my knowledge there were no black/black M5s imported for the U.S.. All the Black/Black M5s were imported for sale in Canada but when that market was not able to absorb as many as expected, the remainder were sent to the U.S. for retail. I believe the number was something around 50. I don't know what was done to the speedos, if anything, but most ended up as company demos within the BMW New Jersey fleet and then sold at a discount for miles to the dealers (or shoved down there throats in some cases) just like the Natur interior cars. We sold one right out from under our area sales rep to a customer since we wouldn't stock an M5 for basic economic reasons relating to how many saleable BMWs we could stock for the same money. That one was also black/black...with a full ashtray when we got it...phewww!

the number of Black/Black M5s US/NA has been stated as 35 to as many as 55. If anyone knows it's "rcbmw", maybe he'll chime in.
Regardless of the total number in existance today, this particular example isn't a $20k car.
I don't know the total number of Euro M5s in the US. RonP and I at one time came up with about 12, but there are probably more. My M5 when completely refurbished might be worth $20K and it only has 107K miles with a balanced and blueprinted, zero timed engine. Euro M5s were built to order unlike the US/NA version, therefore each is fairly unique, possibly one of a kind in some instances.

I noticed that as well, when I saw the car last week on the trader web site. The space between the M and the 5 or S is to far apart. My biggest question is, where is the freakin wing, and I swear that the carpet is brown in the car. Also those front seats look weird under the half sheepskin covers. This looks like a 20k Frankenstein...Wonder if it has a New Orleans salvage title. We all also know that the black interior cars came from Canada. No one knows the exact bleeding of those cars from our french neighbors. regardless these morons are clueless, there are more than 10 black interior cars left in this country (if that is what they were referring to) they may have thought there were only 10 e28 M5's left in the US in general. We should all email them or call them and drive the crap out of them. I thought there were laws to prevent companies from bending people over their non trunk spoilered cars and giving them the bratwurst treatment... The bottom line this is wrong, sad, and I believe in karma!!!
