Well my car is going to need an exhooassed. I was going to get an OEM unit, but they are currently on backorder. What would you guys do? What aftermarket systems are good? Just looking to get some opinions. Thanks

I'm another new M5 owner interested in this same issue. I know many experts prefer the OEM cat and exhaust, but I would also be interested in some other ideas and opinions.

For example, I have a stainless Supersprint muffler on my e36 M3 and really like both its appearance and sound. Any similar upgrades for the old M5?

The OEM exhaust on my M5 might be available soon. Shipping to east coast might be prohibitive though.

IIRC, BMP carries the Supersprint for the M5.

any thoughts on using the euro M5 exhaust. I can get the center res and rear muffler for the euro M5, although as expected its not cheap.

Jim,

If you're running a catalytic convertor you don't want the resonator used with the Euro muffler. If Supersprint won't sell the rear muffler only, try getting a Boysen Euro M5 rear muffler. I'm running a custom system with dual cats and a Euro rear muffler with the resonator on my Euro M5 and it sounds great, or it did 3 1/2 years ago, before the engine broke.

cool thanks. I actually just checked with BMW and they have the OEM US M5 units back in stock in Germany.

Rich, just to clairify, the euro muffler will fit a US model but a US muffler won't fit a euro model?
I thought I remembered a post about them being different because of the US bumper mounting system.

They are different and you'd have to have it fitted by a muffler shop if you don't have welding equipment.
