m535I hc motor?

hello im new here, i recently picked up an 85 m535i, ive researched everything i could find about the car and i keep getting mixed info about the engine,

the vin code is DC71, so is it the "dirty" hc motor or not?

and also why is it nicknamed the "dirty hc motor" around here? should i be worried?

Calling it a dirty engine merely means it's the high compression (10:1), 218hp version that wasn't officially sold in the US. Assuming your car was Federalized when it was brought here by the original owner, a catalytic converter and other equipment was installed so the car will meet emissions.

I saw your car in the other post, looks nice! Where did you get it from? At the 5erFest convention in 2005 in S. Carolina, someone showed up with a red M535i that was for sale but as far as I know no one bought it then.

the car is from poughkeepsie ny, where i live.
also it does now have a cat on it, what other equipment was required to federailize these cars?

but as far as the DC71 code goes it is the h.c motor?

DC71 means "European-spec (LHD), non-catalyst manual, 3/85-10/87"

"non-catalyst" in conjuction with "European-spec" means by definition it is the 10:1 cr "dirty" motor. Which means you have the nicest version of the M535i model made. Congratulations, now post some pictures of it or away with you!
