1987 535is : Service Indicator LED Strip partially Illuminated

Post by Rigsbycamp »

Good Evening,

I have search and could not find this exact problem, but after a recent full service, only the two green led lights are illuminated on the strip.
The cluster is coming out for new OD gears, but perhaps this has a damaged SI board from a battery leak? Advisable to start fresh with a new board or simply solder in new Sanyo Batteries.

Sourcing the board - Ebay or another  service?

Thanks,

Frank

Frank,

Your problem maybe as simple as:

So before removing the cluster, just try this first.
And if the lights do get reseted depending on your car model, then you may take the cluster apart for new gears. Good luck.

Thank you Harry.

As this car has been sitting for a while, I am thinking I have several related symptoms.

1. Odometer non-functional
2.OBC - re-adapted, but have PPPP for all data related items (AVG MPG, AVG MPH, Range)
3. Just  two green LED's  lit.  Will try a reset again.

So perhaps I have multiple issues :

1. Odometer gears are cracked
2. Batteries need to be replaced
3. Possible re-capping of the board

Will report back.

Odo gears have turned to mush, replace
PPPP on OBC II indicates it needs a reset, explained in some online threads.
2 greens, maybe another reset will work. Don’t know for sure.
