Sorry guys, it seems we've kept you out of the loop. time for a bit of an update. the car finally made it on the road back in July! woohoo! it was awesome to see so many hours of work turn into a usable final product. so many emotions. however, it unfortunately wasn't all sunshine for us. after our initial drives, we hopped in the car after dinner to take the fam for a spin, but out of no where, she had no power. strange. brought it home, and tried to start diagnosing. unfortunately, with me leaving for college mid august, we weren't able to figure out the issue despite our the diagnosis we had completed. from there, she sat for a bit. I came home for fall break and we were back at it, but still to no avail. after this, we were quite certain though that our issue was at least one clogged injector, which was found by a wet plug in cylinder 6. through rock auto though, we were able to get a singular replacement injector to hold us over until we had all the injectors rebuilt. popped it in over thanksgiving, and she was back! we got back to driving and the car felt great. it is a bmw though, so it would be wrong if something didn't go wrong. after a quick trip in town to a friends house, I was headed back home, and with the windows down, I got on it a bit, probably 60-70 percent throttle. the car was singing, but after a little fun, I popped it in third and got off the throttle. however, when I went to get back on, the car wouldn't respond. I put the clutch in, and she was indeed dead. I tried to start it again, but no luck. I was able to whip the car around a sharp corner and bring it to a stop (the locking column almost got me). funny enough, there was another group of guys waiting for a flatbed and they were able to help me get the car off the road and to a place where I could start checking out the car. after a while, and a visit from my dad, we found an EXPLODED cap and rotor. with no hope of getting the parts and plans to attend to, we called up AAA for her first trip on the truck of shame. after a few days, we got the new parts, and it was back. since I had to go back to school, the car went away again. however, during this time, we found a PDR specialist to come and work on the car. A couple weeks later, I was home again for winter break, and the PDR guy was killing it! he probably took out a good 40-50 dings, some which seamed almost completely unrepairable. after this, we decided to just have fun with the car. while we were looking to take the rear subframe out of the car, it was just so much fun and there was too much going on. so inevitably the rear end work got pushed to spring break, which brings us to current day! after a good bit of driving this weekend, she'll be coming apart for a rear end refresh, including the tranny coming off and repairing any undercoating on the tunnel, and doing the hard fuel lines and brake lines. I can't wait! we'll try to give an update after we're done.
