Hello!
I have an E34 525tds. I bought a E28 524d (0460406047) pump for doing a fully mechanical pump conversion.
The issue is I wanted to buy a 524td (0460406022) pump.
The non turbo pump can be used on a turbo engine? It has to be adapted in some way?
Thanks in advance

Bought wrong pump
Re: Bought wrong pump
Hm, not sure what the differences are, but a quick look of that part number shows me something with what looks like a boost compensator. I have no idea why a non-turbo pump would need that or how it works, but I suspect the differences are going to be in that area.

Re: Bought wrong pump
Sell it and get the right pump. Your timing advance and boost compensation fueling are completely different between N/A and turbo applications.

Hello. I discussed this issue in GREAT detail last fall. But I'm not sure that I can translate my solution to the same problem in an accessible and understandable way. Therefore, I suggest you read my report here.:

There are a lot of photos, I showed all the differences.

sorry but i cant see your file
Re: Bought wrong pump
Probably something getting lost in the Google translation, but what is the "Cassette" with the different springs for? Is that for timing advance?
I think I understood enough of the rest of it.
Not surprised its largely the same pump with some differences. It would make sense for Bosch to design it to be semi-universal, just some specific parts change depending on application.

This cassette has different springs for a sharper release of gas in the case of a turbocharged engine. This cassette is a kind of "amortizer" between the throttle lever and the fuel supply lever.
Re: Bought wrong pump
Ah ok, it changes how the governor reacts to the throttle lever. That makes sense.
Is there a difference in the timing advance spring? That should live under a cover on the side of the pump facing away from the engine. Its a small cover with 2 screws, and there is a spring and a piston in there. The piston gets internal pump pressure which changes with engine RPM. The spring will change how much the timing advances with engine RPM, and I think there might be spacers or something else in there to limit how much the timing can advance.

Re: Bought wrong pump
No, the advance system and the spring in it are exactly the same.
