question: trunk battery relocation

Ever since moving my battery to the trunk in my e28 ls3 swap, I've noticed the time it takes to crank is a bit longer than when my battery was in the engine bay. I am using a larger battery - same size as an e28 m5 - but I'm wondering if not having a full length negative cable might affect my starting time. Feedback on those who have done battery trunk relocations appreciated.

You would not want a full length ground cable, the chassis is all the link you need from engine bay to trunk.
Longer crank times are more likely a fuel check valve not staying 'checked'. (in my experience)

Probably has nothing to do with the battery location. My son has always relocated his battery to trunk.
I would double check the two following:
Did you clean your ground spot of paint?
Are you using at least 4awg OFC cables?

my trunk battery on my 5 liter swap is grounded to the spare tire well with a bolt. whats your ground location? hopefully not to a strut bolt.

to test a ground take some long jumper cables and jump the battery negative to the motor and see if it improves cranking.
