I'm going to be doing a water pump job soon, and my research has me wondering whether an M5 pump from an e34 would fit on an M30 engine. I've searched the forum and only seen where people have mentioned doing the opposite.
There are different part numbers for s38b35 pumps for the e28 and e34, but they both use the same gasket, which also seems to be the same gasket used on M30s. This has me wondering if there is a dimensional difference which would prevent it from working properly on an M30, particularly an e28 535i.
The reason I ask is because a new genuine 535i pump is about $150, while supposedly high quality aftermarket ones seem to run $45-55. There is an OE Saleri pump for the e34 M5 available though, which is $75, so I wonder if the OE Saleri pump, if better than aftermarket options and cheaper than genuine is the best choice.
Has anyone ever tried fitting an e34 M5 pump (11511315563) to an M30?

It has the same bolt pattern, but B36 pulleys are B36 specific, so the snout on the water pump has a different height than a classic M30 height. You could use a B36 pump, but you'd have to change all of your pulleys. You may even have to change your oil pan and bracketry so your alternator and PS pump pulleys line up. Just get the correct pump, please.

The outlet is different on the E34 M5, your fan clutch will not thread on either.
