Tropical Storm Hermine/Hurricane Mathew

I know some people worry, so I thought I'd provide a few updates: It's raining a lot and the tree frogs are fucking. Winds are minimal and you could still milk a cow if you had to. It's not that bad at all.

I had some Chardonnay at the children's bus stop at 2:39 from a frosted beer mug upon their arrival home today. The rainwater made it quite drinkable and all of the other parents stayed in their cars so I didn't have to share. That wine is gone and now the power is out forcing my hand at this case of Icehouse I don't want to go bad.
My prized Chinese Elm is hanging on for dear life but "Ernie" , my youngest daughter's hibiscus. has taken a fall. I was asked to retrieve Ernie, but I believe that soldier is resting comfortably. With God.
And now, in my humble servitude, I will go out to the garage and check for any instances which may be noteworthy. If I don't make it. . . please play "Lucky Star" at my wake.

Glad to hear that all things are status quo with you out there. Believe it or not, I for one always do think about how a good Hurricane would really deal with the likes of you .
Not sure where exactly you are there, but I have traveled through the Sounds many times bringing boats North & South, as you may remember. Stopped in many towns along the way over the years as well, not many on the Outer Banks though. I was in Hatteras a number of years ago for a few says waiting for parts to arrive, really fell in love with it there.
Hell, you may have even heard of a place called Coin Jock. Seems any time we have to do the run inside we just can't seem to get by it without stopping for the night.

We had a rather large beach come off a cypress tree and it damaged both of my Alfa's. the '87 has a hole in the soft top over the passenger set, and the '92 has a fist-sized dent above the left rear wheel. The top is an easy fix, but the dent looks like major work. I'm hoping a PDR guy can do something, but that area has a complex shape, and I think the fender will require a weld-in replacement of that area.

Sorry to hear that. We are in Maine, coming back today, but my digital rain gauge that I can monitor from my phone reads at 12.75" of rain from the storm, which is a boat load. My neighbor surveyed my property and I have no apparent damage except for a small tree down. Hope your PDR guy can work his magic.

It makes me sick even looking at that dent, and any PDR repair would truly have to be magic, but I can hope for the best. It couldn't be in a worse spot on the car, and I fear the original paint will be tough to match, should a weld-in repair be needed. Can't claim it on my insurance, either, since the car is supposed to be stored inside, but I have too many cars and not enough garage space, so I cheat a little on those rules. At least it wasn't the E24, but my 350Z almost got nailed by a different tree a few years ago. Our property is filled with old cedar trees, and it's hard to know which ones are dangerous, even though we try to keep them healthy and trimmed. I can't complain too much, though, as no one was injured here, and I know others were by the same storm.

Yep. I don't have good feels about this one, but mama ain't raise no foo' so there's plenty of supplies. Even pulled out the old motorcycle helmet and chainsaw because, well, chainsaw!

If the winds blow right you'll end up with some dabloons, a couple of pearl necklaces and a lifetime supply of beedies in your front yard after it sweeps through Nassau. If you're real lucky the necklace will be on a bahama mama or at the very least she'll have a craving for one.

Well, the models show it tracking more and more west these past 24 hours. Depends where/if the eye comes ashore or how close it gets. Probably 100mph+ winds for sure here in the Palm Beach county area. House is shuttered up since you just can't know for sure where it will go. A shift of 20-50 miles to the west would make a significant difference! I'm in the red area on the last pic, 74mph+ winds.

Well I hope it goes well, my sister is in Palm Beach Gardens so that model makes me even more nervous. I did talk my dad into a hotel room out by Disney instead of being beachside for it.

I did see a list of 40 gas station by you that work without power, so that's a good thing. That was the worst part in 04, I learned a lot of lessons about natural disasters that year.

Aaannnd it's a wrap. More of a tropical storm than any kind of hurricane I've ever witnessed. Lil' bitch.
My prized Chinese elm lost a small limb and the power went out half way through baking banana bread. Came back online an hour later, so the bread turned out simply fabulous and all the beer stayed cold. I'm sure my e30 has a trunk full of water and some other bullshit that might require the chainsaw, but a Jackass marathon helped to round out an otherwise pretty fine day.
