1988 528e water leak

Can anyone help diagnose my damage?

When was the last time you replaced the heater hoses??

Not ever I had the car for 6 years and never changed it. I'll get behind there today and check it out.

Hell, you can remove the whole engine if you want to make it really easy to replace the hoses.

I have a 1988 528e. I see you owned one too. Maybe ours is different because I don't see how on earth I'm suppose to get to the other end of that hose behind the engine block and between the firewall? Patience and persistence doesn't explain it. Bentley doesn't explain it... Maybe it might be obvious to some but not to me that's why I joined the forum. For assistance in helping maintain my 528e. If I had money to send it to a shop I would.

Most people here come seeking answers. Just look at the views vs replies...

Thank you for letting me know that the problem was the hoses. Now I just need to know how to go about Changing that one particular hose without pulling the top part of the engine off.

Honestly, it was quite a long time ago when I replaced mine. I do remember that there was plenty of swearing involved while I was doing it doing it and id did take walking away from it and returning many times.
Now I only have the e39 to swear at, plenty BTW. Huge love hate relationship. I have two more heater hoses/plastic pipes to replace on it and the intake manifold DOES HAVE to come off to do these.

I've done it twice recently and it wasn't what I would call difficult. You have to get something down there to unscrew the hose clamp and hold it so it doesn't twist down. If you apply pressure toward the front of the car while loosening the clamp with a socket, you can remove it one handed.

Now you're in for a real treat. BTDT, but the good thing is I found my oil leak at the oil filter housing. Intake manifold gaskets were nice and soft at 200K, but the oil filter housing was crispy. Mine were so bad neither end was even attached at the block.
