What out of the ordinary cars did you see today?

So far today, I've seen a really nice 1st Gen Ford Lightning pickup, a gorgeous probably original owner '94 Impala SS, a mint '70s Celica GT and I just saw a '66 122S that id love to have so much.

Not today, but last week, saw this southbound on I-29 near Sioux Falls. Not exactly a car either, but it's really out of the ordinary, and impressive as all get-out when you see it up close. There were three of them travelling together, probably en route to a new assembly site. We're back in Germany now, and here's a cool truck I saw at the Mercedes Benz dealership in Lörrach:



And here's a sweet M6 that was in the parking lot at the grocery store today. Very nice looking car!



And here's an older photo of a couple of BMWs I saw here in Kandern; not terribly unusual, but the first of each I've seen since last July!



And another older photo; taken in Freiburg last fall. It's a Twike, basically an electric vehicle with pedals, but it won't move unless you're pedalling.

We took a little jaunt to Genoa this last weekend, and saw a lot of cars I'd consider out of the ordinary.

Started out with our friends' little A-Class packed to the gills with four of us and our luggage. It was tight, and the luggage compartment was too. Decent little car, but spending 12 hours (round trip) in one isn't how I'd describe a perfect weekend.



First spotting along the way was this Alfa Romeo. Sexy looking and sounding.



A herd of Swiss Army guys rolled into the same lot as the Alfa. The G-Wagens are cool, but the Defender is still my favorite, by far.



There must've been a race or a Porsche gathering somewhere in Switzerland; this guy in the Macan pulling the race-prepped 968 was followed by a super clean Cayenne pulling an enclosed trailer, probably containing some other Stuttgart goodie.



We stayed in a little town south of Genova, and at first I thought all the little Fiats, like this air-cooled 126, were pretty neat. But they're about as common as Prius' (Prii?) in North America. I took pics of a few of them, then decided if you've seen one... They're still pretty cool little cars though!





We saw these two while wandering around Lavagna looking for lasagna; a Citroen Mehari and some kind of MEGA mini-truck.



MEGA mini-truck. Funny play on words there; the thing was about as wide as a Fiat 500, and probably had the load capacity of a wheelbarrow, but I thought it was pretty cool. I'd rock it.



You see all kinds of mini-trucks in Italy, they're literally everywhere. This thing caught my eye while walking around in Lavagna; no idea what the brand is, but I think they grabbed a pair of e36 kidney grilles for it, or at least styled the front end to look like an e36. Funny looking critter.



One really odd thing we saw (but didn't get a photo of) was a Lincoln Town Car stretch limo on the expressway outside of Genoa. It was a long one, and not surprisingly, it had a big crease down the passenger side. I can't imagine driving something like that in Europe. Masochist I guess.

This guy passed us on our Sunday return trip; he was in a bit of a hurry, and was visibly agitated that the little white econobox was blocking his way past the bus. Once the path was clear, he was GONE. Beautiful exhaust noise from that car!



Then we saw this guy coming onto the expressway in Switzerland, just as we entered one of the 3,485 tunnels along the way. The American V8 rumble sounded a little out of place in the land of buzzy little four-bangers. They do like their fürrin sports cars!





We saw a couple of oddballs at a stop on the way down from the San Bernardino Pass in Switzerland; a murdered-out Dodge Challenger and a Shelby GT-850(?) at an exotic car dealer. There was also a BMW dealership across the street from this place that had an i8 on the lot; didn't see it until it was too late to grab a pic. I wasn't driving, so...







It was a fun weekend out. I'm always amazed at where we can go and how much we can see in a 4-day weekend off from a home-base in Europe. Lots to see within a short drive. Gas is expensive (about 1.40 Euro/liter) but we were able to get an Air B&B apartment for the weekend for about 200 Euro for four of us. And air travel is pretty cheap too if you shop around; I've seen round-trip flights from Basel to London for 19 Euro! Definitely the best part of this job!

It's a Chinese Dongfeng and they're apparently not the only Chinese manufacturer to 'borrow' the design.

Not quite that elaborate, but I had a friend with a bug with a flatbed on the back of it. Last time I think I saw it he was hitting golf balls off it towards the nearby golf course. It was at night, so probably no golfers were in danger but what a sight.

I know virtually nothing about Vette's but that one I do know. Split window is 63 only. And it's a big deal.
