Hack Mechanic Repair of The Month

I wonder if anyone has seen a repair more stupidly amazing then this.

I was at my local gas station getting a leaking tire plugged when the owner started ranting about what he found inside the engine of a Jeep that was brought to his shop. The pictures tell the whole story...

This is a pic of the water pump housing that was eaten away by the bolt. The mechanic also left out the water pump bolt, wonder why

Where did the nut go? Dayam. So why was the Jeep in for, a tic? I did similar with a chain for my Stihl. I used a rivet. It was missing several teeth too. I eventually replaced it without issue.

Jeez, I don't even like master links, I've bought new chains when I found the first one had a master. I'll kludge some things, but not a timing chain.

Sometimes as a way to make small talk, I'll ask "What's the best repair you've done with JB weld?". Once, a young fellow told me he tried to fix his bike chain with it. It didn't last very long.

Doing that to a timing chain might be enough to get you out of the woods, surprised it worked.

The chain part I get, but how did it get outside the timing cover to affect the water pump?

have no idea.., I didn't spend the time to put it all together in my head when he showed it to me. Next time I go there to get gas I'll dig-in a bit closer
