Alpinweiß & Perlbeige with Bronze Glass

From the first moment I read that such a thing existed, I knew I wanted to put the fancy euro bronze glass in my car someday. That said, it sounded like an absolutely horrendous job and I put it on that list of things titled, "I'd love to do this, but never will." Chapter closed, it was never happening.

Fast-forward several years: my car had recently come out of long-term storage (five years) and some asshat broke into it, smashing my rear quarter window. In replacing that window, I realized it's actually not that difficult at all to replace a window - surprise surprise. I didn't put much more thought into it until a few months later, when a set of bronze glass came up for a reasonable price (thanks 5toes!); I thought to myself, "I can totally do that." So I went for it and arranged for transport to happen a few months in the future.

While waiting for the glass, I started looking for photos of other cars with bronze glass, and this is when I noticed a pattern: finding white cars (e23s, e24s, e28s, e30s) with bronze glass was impossible - I was unable to find a single example online.

My question is: WHY? Alpinweiß is a WARM white, not a cool white, and with a tan (perlbeige) interior, bronze glass seems a natural choice. Was it that the factory options didn't allow for that combination? Or that it just" didn't look right" in the 80's? Regardless, I knew I wanted it, especially since I just got a set of nice "platinum" colored BBS RGs - it'd just really tie it all together.

So, to the purpose of my post: for those of you curious about or wanting to switch to bronze glass, but have had trouble finding photographs to help you compare and make decisions, here are some before-and-after photos of my Alpinweiß over Perlbeige car changing from green to bronze glass. I'm also including some other photos that will be helpful in making comparisons since it was a pain-point for me that decent photographs were so hard to come by. Enjoy. One of the best things I did to my car was convert to bronze glass. Still waiting for a windscreen though. Looks great on the white. It really isn't that difficult of a task to swap and it's the perfect opportunity to service the window regs and bailey channels also. Nice job.

Thanks! I've really been enjoying the change...it's subtle, but the car has a whole new feel to it. Front and rear windshields should be going in St. Paddy's day weekend and then I'll shadowline it before the end of the year to complete the look =) Still can't believe that the bronze glass seems impossible to find in the white cars..so weird.
