Getting lockplate off (rear hub)

Im working on a 87 528e. rear trailing arm, passenger side. I need to get the hub off. there is a lockplate on the big nut. how to get it off correctly without damaging threads. I have a replacement lockplate. so probably gonna destroy it taking it off. but is the best way to attack such a problem. thanks.

The lock plate goes on on top of the nut. Use a screwdriver through the slot in the drive flange to deform it and either carefully work your way around from there or grab it with pliers. You will need to order a new one.

Regular. Lots of torque on it though.
