think it's M30 ftw right now. Also probably not going to use the 745 manifold. Just going to do what brad did and flip the manifolds.

M30.

m50's are boring... You don't even have to adjust valves... they sound stupid... they look weird...

SWD is next weekend so I tore the car down again to replace a bunch of gaskets and do a valve adjustment. After I ripped everything apart I decided to do some cleaning. Going to clean the bay today but engine and accessories got cleaned last night. I've run the intake manifold through the parts washer like 5 times today. It's starting to look pretty good. Going to paint it tonight.

Image

Image

My intake valves looked to be in excellent shape. I'm very impressed for 220,000 original miles.

Image

Cleaned the head. Looks pretty good.

Image

Image

Image

Image

painted the valve cover again. I was tired of the blue. This came out great. It has a metallic fleck in it and it looks awesome in direct light.

Image

Image

Spark plug wires are disgusting and they won't clean up.

Image

I finished my engine bay up. Cleaned it and moved the last of the wires out of the way. When I order the DIY autotune harness I'll loom everything and tuck it away even more. It looks so much cleaner.

Image

Image

Image

Image

I spent basically all saturday welding things on the car. I fixed a few exhaust holes, added another exhaust hanger so it doesn't fall off again. I spent forever reinforcing the fenders and lining the front bumper back up. It now sits straighter than ever.

Image

Also fixed my wheel to fender clearance issues.

Image

Image

Then I chopped up my euro bumper and made it fit. So happy to have it back on. It makes the car look so much more normal.

Image

Image

Last things to do are tires and I'm ready to roll.

Found a few pictures from the event last weekend. Nothing special. My car doesn't smoke at all. I need camber adjustment in the rear so bad. I'm destroying tires on the insides. But on another note, I looked into (with some help from SLR) finding options for suspension swaps. I have found the e90 IX front suspension uses the same front suspension system as the e28 and the arms are steel. Which could allow me to run A: E90 front brakes and knuckles, but B: a steering rack. Which would make a huge difference in angle. The arms also appear to have a bit more curve to them which would allow more clearance. Only issue might be price. But i'll have to see.

What would really help that car is to get rid of that ridiculous hot air intake set-up.

Your front wheels are on backwards

So this this car now solely a drift vehicle, or do you still drive it on the street?

Yeah it is. It sits in the garage most of the time. But I still take it out for shows and sunny days occasionally.

So I did the knuckles. Probably went a little to far. But hey, for a first attempt I'm pleased. I've got another set coming in from Germany hopefully next week that I'm probably going to mod but with a little less movement inwards. Right now It'll turn until the wheel hits the subframe, which is pretty cool. But I don't really need that. So next up will most likely be extended control arms of some sort.

After the cut and weld.

Image

full lock left, limited by the inner passengers side fender, which I will be cutting out tomorrow.

Image

Full lock right, limited be the subframe.

Image

and the other side, full right.

Image

side view

Image

Also my weld els came in from china land so I can start on the turbo manifold soon. hopefully after this last event I do in November.

After spending two weeks stressing out about the SWD end of year bash, renting the car out for a drift event in burlington, and spending literally every night the preceding week up till at least 3 am, I got the car ready to go for the event.

So many things nearly went wrong and I'm so happy I made it out there. Between me accidentally installing a knuckle on the wrong side, it seizing up on the control arm and having to get another one from work a 7am on the saturday of the burlington event and then setting my rev limiter settings up backwards I was stressed out to the max.

That wasn't even the end of it. Austin's car (green E30) wouldn't start the week of the event and the night before we were up until at least 2am getting it back together after diagnosing a bad CPS, flooded motor, and extremely fouled plugs.

But wait, there's more. Francisco's (red E30) all started leaking when we got to the shop to work on the to other e30 so we had to change those as well.

So tired as hell, freezing cold, and delirious we all made it to the event.

AND WE WENT HARD!

Image

Image

Image

Image

We looked all pretty in the pits at first. Then things starting getting violent.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Then it just got weird.

Image

and then fancy

Image

Team RAWDAWG had some of the best tandems of the day up until francisco destroyed my door and bent a tie rod.

Image

Image

We were supposed to do a team tandem comp, but unfortunately the practice run before we went for our comp run francisco bent the tie rod. We still had a load of fun regardless.

Well It's been a question I've had to answer at every car meet, every drift event, and every single time someone asks me about the car. "when are you going to do the rear?"

We No longer. It's happening. I gave up on trying to source more wheels. I'm just going to deal with having to pay to change tires at the track.

Sadly since the driver's quarter panel and the passenger's door are so mangled I'm going to be delayed a bit on those. But for the time being I'm going to go ahead gut everything up and get it ready to roll. I'm going to go ahead and throw a bash bar on the rear instead of the Pfeba lip because it's not going to fit. Really can't wait to be rolling around no looking like a tadpole. Also really need a huge wing for the rear. Like really, really need one.

Pics...

Image

Started the first cuts. The top half is completely free. Cutting the lower half is becoming more and more of a pain the further I progress.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

The fitment is insane. 17x8 et-65ish with a 15mm spacer....

Image

Going to paint the interior and the cage soon. It's starting to rust. (Duhhhh)

Image

And on another note. If you know anyone who want to swag their e28 out, my genuine Pfeba valance is for sale. $200 plus shipping.

Rear end of the car is cut out, wheels are on. Car looks petty goofy being that wide with only 8 inch wheels. So I'll need to do something about that in the future. But for now it's time to focus on boost. Here are some pictures of what's going on.

Image

And if your next question was, well when will it be done? The answer to that is, soon. The first of my two new quarter panels came in so I can completely finish the left side of the car. Once the right side get here I still have to source a new door.

I also routed my charge piping. Used maybe half of what they sent me. Super easy. Intercooler and misc fan mounts and couplers are being ordered friday. Then all I'll need will be a turbo, injectors, and the material for the downpipe.

Did two events this past weekend. Piedmont drift and Driftaholics at VIR. Both events were fun. Piedmont didn't go so well. Probably my 5th or 6th run of the day I bent my tie rod, it bound up on the control arm, made the car hop, and got the wheel stuck on the frame.

Image

you can see it happen in this video. Notice how one wheel is wayyyy out.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StTAkML ... e=youtu.be

So I need to figure out a plan for those. Whether it be keeping spares or having custom ones made.

finished the day unscathed otherwise.

Image

friend of mine slammed his car into the only telephone pole on the whole course. Not a fun day for him.

Image

Couple of videos I got while the car wasn't up on jack stands.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFbNVoaxWcY

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZRNQJ8pELE

next day I went up to VIR with my buddy. Showed up like 2 hours late. I thought the track was going to be really slow and small. It was actually pretty fast, really good use of space. Only problem was how the event was being run. No run groups, no spin out rule, if you didn't know what you were doing (which was about 75% of the people you basically got 2 minutes to do whatever you wanted. So burnouts, donuts, driving in circles, whatever. Also two cars were automatic and two others were open diff. It was kind of a mess. I had a great time though. Linked the track first try ( also the first one at the event to do i.) Ran some tandem and did some sketchy stuff.

We got bored so my friend in the e30 and I decided to mix it up a bit.

Well I was busy this weekend. Got the turbo on after about 36 hours of work. Fixed my oil pan, got a new motor mount (3 years later), and of course a nice shiny turbo. Made a custom adapter manifold. It spools very quickly and boost has been very consistent (when I've actually hit it) I;m waiting on my intercooler and a few more hoses to show up. Until then I'm babying the car. I was watching my intake air temps on the laptop and they're getting up to about 100 degrees. I really don't want to blow this thing up. But Anyway here are a few pictures of the build, it's ridiculously fast now. So happy to finally have power.

Next on my list of stuff to get

1. ARP and MLS
2. Clutch
3. Exhaust
4. Camber & Toe Adjusters for the rear.

Also need to put my new knuckles on and find an event to do.

Wow, this is an awesome build! You've got some balls doing some of the mods you've done, very cool. I wish I could fabricate stuff like that. Glad to see I'm not the only one competing in this car!

Fingers crossed on my welds, Heat wrapped the manifold last weekend to try to keep some heat away from the oil lines and the plug wires, going to probably wrap the exhaust, or just wait until I get my steel to do a real downpipe. Probably going to order stainless steel in a few months and attempt a nicer manifold. I want to maybe go balls out and try to make a true twin scroll. But first I need to work on my tig welding. I just started using it a few weeks ago.

Car is running very well so far. It comes into boost insanely fast. Still waiting on my intercooler. I still haven't taken a real hit or anything, really don't want to blow it up. But it's been running pretty well. I've been messing around on the VE analyze live and it's starting to work the fuel map out. Once I get the intercooler on I'll start to push it a little more. Hopefully if all goes according to plan I'll have it ready for hyperfest on may 2nd. Still need to get a lot done.

Image

Fixed my front valance. So happy it's metal, I was able to bend it back fairly easily. It's not perfect, but it's better than being crushed.

also picking a second turd up next weekend, super excited. 86 or 87 535is. Going to turn it into a missile to destroy at all the local small tracks. Currently on cut springs  going to have to figure out some sort of cheapo suspension.
going to rob the windshield, tail lights, passenger rear door, hood, and front valance to put on my car before it gets painted.

Image

what a bute. Super excited about the M-striped hood....

I picked up a second turd!
85 535is 5 speed, 186k on the working odometer! :alright
Supposedly PO lost the key sold it to a friend and then that friend sold it to me after taking the spoiler. Went to pick it up, within five minutes of cleaning the five million pounds of trash out of the car, found a key and trailered it home. Got home hooked it up to a battery and it started first try. Runs like a champ other than being low on just about every fluid and having bad gas. It's in great shape, has power e34 seats, windows work, nice sound system. The only thing that isn't working is the sunroof. Paint is meh, hood is meh, and I have to give the wheels and the diff back, also meh. But I have tons of extra wheels and I'm picking a diff up next weekend. Hopefully I'll have the car road worthy in a month. Have to wait for the title to be recovered and get it put in my name.

Plans for this thing include, my old pfeba valance, taurus side skirts, some sort of front lip, my old euro bumpers, coilovers, and new bushings all over, after that, we'll be hitting the track and using it as a support vehicle when I break stuff on the white car.

Image

interior is in good shape. No that's no a crackless dash. It's a plastic cover.

Image

Image

After a quick wash, man was this thing disgusting.

Image

Image

They instantly became friends.
