Can someone help me identify the proper mounting locks and thumbscrews used in the e28 M5 trunk panels?
I have found conflicting detail from several sources. I have a part number of 51 71 1 916 199. One source says this is for the battery access panel. Another says it is for the trunk panels also. My M5 has no hardware mounting the trunk side panels to the inner fender wells, so I am at a loss as to what pieces are needed to get the panels mounted properly. The schematics I have looked at are not providing enough detail for me to make a proper decision.
Any insight will be helpful; and part numbers would be a great help

Re: trunk panel mounting
The item you list is the lock insert for some of the connectors. The actual screw bits you need are:
51471877688 flat head screwdriver item for the rear panel (taillight access)
51471945546 metal screws with loops for bottom screws - battery box and driver's side trim
51711916197 thumb screws for side panels and first aid box on left side
That last one uses the -199 lock insert as a catch.

Re: trunk panel mounting
Thanks Micah ... guess ECS is the place to buy these items, they are far cheaper than FCP.
Re: trunk panel mounting
Check online dealer sources as well like Tischer (Silver Spring - getbmwparts.com) or bmwofsouthatlanta.com. Tischer is close to you so shipping would be quick for in-stock stuff, and the pricing is generally very good.
Re: trunk panel mounting
Again, Thank you! I just ordered from getbmwparts.com. and they are within driving distance for me. Think I save on gas and time spent, and just have the stuff shipped.

Passport BMW is generally cheaper (don't know about S/H charges) and closer.
