WTB: 745 turbo k27

Post by grey ghost »

I'm looking for a turbo from the euro e23 745. The seals in my turbo are toast and are oozing oil. I'm looking for a replacement. If you have a known good unit drop me a pm please. Thanks.

Why not pick up one of the $40 kits on eBay and replace your seals instead of gambling on a "known-good" unit?

I've read a lot about precision balancing and things to that matter, so that my be above me.

Some turbos are independently balanced, so the shaft, intake impeller and exhaust impeller are all separately balanced. I know on a holset I rebuilt it was fairly straightforward to take apart and put back together.

Figured you had looked into it. I've seen so much conflicting info. The Porsche people have been pretty positive about "Durabuilt Turbo" for rebuilding K27s. I was likely going to go that route but was happy to see that the turbo was in really good shape on the B7 Turbo.

The goal is to rebuild a "known good" unit so I can swap it in an keep it moving. R&R of an e23 745i system is a PITA on an e28. The exhaust manifold has to be removed to get the turbo out. Its gross if it goes smooth, but it never does.

That manifold does not have to come off. Unbolt the turbo and unbolt the motor mount. Then jack the motor up a few inches and it will come out of the bottom near the firewall.

Pureturbos is currently rebuilding mine with a cast 35r wheel for 550$ and they can usually do it within a week. Might want to check them out. I think it is $350 for just a rebuild including materials.

And to think I started with two turbos, sold one, acquired another and sold that one as well. Now I need one.
