The Thread of Randomness. . .
Re: The Thread of Randomness. . .
I need to stop being so cheap with my USB flash drives. USB 2.0 supports 30 MB/s and these bastards only write at 3.5 MB/s tops.
Sucks when you're trying to create some install images for a new system with no optical drive.

Hmmm... I thought the red dot meant something else... It must be camouflaged somehow on non-Hindi women. ![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

Re: The Thread of Randomness. . .
"epic" has become overused and diluted to the point of meaning nothing.
yahoo article: "Epic prank gone wrong"
jalopnik article: "Subaru STI crash test epic video, because FAIL"
Oh and while we're at it, that dumbass "because" thrown in many of the jalopnik titles shames their otherwise good writing.

Current job. Do want to upgrade.
Re: The Thread of Randomness. . .
As I pulled into a gas station to fill up the e32 yesterday, some mustachioed nerdy-type guy was in the process of pulling away from the pump with the nozzle still sticking out the filler on his generic Japanese car. Lucky for him it just popped out and fell to the ground. He hopped out of his car, checked to make sure nobody inside was looking, put the nozzle back on the pump, put his filler cap back on, and drove off in a bit of a hurry. I don't think anybody in the store even noticed.

We spent the weekend in the desert at a friends house. I can't believe how quiet and relaxing it was. There's no way I could live there full time but it's great in small doses. Also, out in the desert there are zillions of stars at night. You'd think they'd put 'em over the city where more people could enjoy them though.

Re: The Thread of Randomness. . .
It started with the occasional "Happy Friday" in the corporate hallways. Now it's guaranteed that a few people will offer that perky exclamation at the beginning or the end of a conf call on a Friday, or when they see you in the breakroom.
Now, it's Happy Monday. Happy Tuesday, and so on. And people are signing their emails with it.
Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays. Now fuck off.

Heads-up, Minnesota.

Today started out pretty nice, compared to the last few days, but the weather turned downright nasty this afternoon, and it looks to be bearing down on the Twin Cities area. It's been raining -- hard -- here for the last hour or so, with some good sized hailstones and 70+mph winds thrown in for good measure. I'm at work, with the e32 parked out front. With the rain, nobody has ventured outside to see how much damage has been inflicted on the cars, but I have no doubt there is damage. Happy Monday indeed.![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)
Much of Saturday was rain, then Sunday morning showed another 3.2" from the overnight monsoon. Last count showed about 12" of rain for the last few weeks. I think we somehow got relocated to the Pacific northwest.
This pic was taken about a mile from my house. Thankfully there is a bit of an elevation difference between that spot and my house. Higher ground FTW!

Re: The Thread of Randomness. . .
Wow and people still think "yeah, I'll drive through that and make it".
Tonight outside of Target a boomer generation dude is in a new Jeep Grand Cherokee parked in the fire lane. Right outside the doors by the curb. Engine running, driver side window down. I yelled "you know that isn't a parking spot" and he looked at me and said "it is now". I yelled a clean parting shot (my daughter was with me) and he didn't reply. What is it with the sense of entitlement? The rest of us park in the lot between the lines (mostly) and drag ass inside, but not him.
When we came out of Target 10 minutes later he was still there. I didn't engage further.

What gets me is people that troll a half-full lot looking for a spot that's close to the building.
![Face Palm ](./images/smilies/facepalm.gif)
Another thing I don't get, around here especially, is leaving the car idling in the lot. People around here do it year-round; running the heater in the winter, A/C in the summer. I parked next to a car like that a few days ago, and the temp was in the 70's.

Re: The Thread of Randomness. . .
I agree completely about the people who leave the engine running with a/c or heat on. For 30 minutes, an hour! WTF. I'm sure if these same people were asked in a poll if they thought we had a problem with C02 emissions from cars they would say "yes, definitely, the govt should pass some laws!" meanwhile they can't see past their own idiotic behavior.
The typical offenders are in the soccer mom parking lot at a game or practice, the Toyota Sienna/Honda Oddysey/Cadillac Escalade parked with engine running, a/c cranked, and size of the pool of water under the vehicle as the indicator of how long they've been sitting there with the engine running.

A slightly geeky friend of mine bought a drone quadcopter, and has been busy shooting video from it; some pretty cool footage from it. Here's one of his videos I thought some might enjoy; an aerial tour of our city's namesake, the falls of the Big Sioux River. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bz2BZkUEFuI
It's a DJI Phantom 2 Vision Plus; very cool toy.![Cool ](./images/smilies/icon_cool.gif)

Random question of the day, from my 15 yr old son; "Which end of a female centaur would a baby centaur feed from, the back end like a horse, or the top end like a person?"
He's known around home as Captain Random. His older brother is Professor Tangent. The question came up after he watched The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. That kid cracks me up sometimes.![Laugh ](./images/smilies/laugh2.gif)

Re: The Thread of Randomness. . .
That is a great question.
Reminds me of my nephew when he was younger. It was around Halloween and they found some scary sounds websitefor the kids to play with. "What sound does the witch make?" cue, cacklling laughter. "What about a ghost?" cue some kind of moaning/whooo.
My nephew: "What sound does the pumpkin make?"
Umm....I don't know how to answer that???
