Did the Denver to Los Angeles via I-70 last thursday and friday, such an inspiring drive and a great one with the e28 windows down and roof open.

Now I'm in Hermosa beach, but I got a few issues with the 528e that need addressed. Where's a good SoCal e28 mechanic, I heard some recommendations for Bahn Motorworks in Downey?

^^That does sound like a rather terrific drive... I've done LOTS of I-70 miles, but don't remember doing that particular drive before... (Actually, I just looked it up, and I have done that drive before, but it's not ALL I-70, but it does look like I've driven every mile of I-70 at one time or another)

Also, everyone has had the same design army men since, well, forever. Same mold, same size. My kid has some. But what he REALLY likes is Tanks. He sent me a picture of me (holding a pistol since I'm in Afgh) with a T34. This kid is CRAZY for tanks. We've bought him some, but they are either models, or chintzy Chinese crap that just doesn't hold up to 5 y.o. wars. PLUS, they are the wrong scale. The army men are ALWAYS bigger. So, I'm screwing around on Amazon because we're on like tank #5, and they all suck. They're all falling apart. The kid knows his tanks, and he wants a Sherman, dammit. So, I happen to see on one tank description that it's scaled correctly for the 54mm army men. Huh. Hey, look at that, IT'S A SHERMAN!! So I pays the $11 and we have Prime, so 2 day shipping. A TOTAL HIT! The kid sleeps with it, and Heather reports that it is VERY rugged and well made. Finally, the mystery is solved, and I have gift ideas for years to come. Now you know.

Bahn Motorworks is really good. Mark Becker knows his shit and is an E28 guy.

Bahn Motorworks is really good. Mark Becker knows his shit and is an E28 guy.

They are booked a week out, its a wiring issue so I'd rather have a professional do it but I've been able to limp it around because once its started it stays that way (usually).

The wiring for the reference and speed sensors are all jacked up and just broke on the trip. I was able to re-connect it with a wire twist but it's been acting goofy since then and I want it fixed right.

Agreed, I've got an appointment for next tuesday. Hopefully it keeps (eventually) starting for the limited amount of running around I'll be doing between now and then.

Who in the hell collects Camrys?

Over the last few weeks, I've seen several "Collectors Edition" Camrys of various generations with two-tone paint and stickers. Seriously? I guess the same people that collect special edition toaster ovens or shop vacs.

I dunno who collects them, but they have an awful lot of choices out there, there's lots to choose from.

On a related note, I've long been puzzled by the "limited" designation on cars. Yes, I know even the most robust BMW/Ferrari/Lambo/Bugati/??? is limited, but to openly revel in it? As in, "yeah, I'm sloooow. And here's my brother limited, very limited."

That's why I don't do it. Well, I really don't do fast food anymore, but when I still did I would park and go inside. I figure if I'm not fit to walk inside I shouldn't be driving.

Actually I found it to be interminably slow due to them screwing up either my order or the person in front of me.

After sitting in my garage for about 6 years, I finally get my new Lincoln 180 mig welder going. Had an issue with wire feed not running a steady speed. Figured out if I unscrew the tip a couple turns, it made it feed wire steady. Now I need to practice welding a bunch of scrap in different thickness of metal. Then get the gas hooked up & run mig to see how much better that is than flux core. Then weld the E30 seat tab. Maybe in a month or so weld the new support bracket on the 535is so the skid plate can be bolted on. When I bought it the pass side support bracket was bent so bad it needs to be replaced rather than straightened. Have been sitting on the new bracket for a few months, & the skid plate even longer. Then I can think about installing the Spax springs & struts.
