Euro M5 spoiler fitment

I put on a new euro sheetmetal valance over the weekend. That was the easy part.

I am having some issues with the M5 euro spoiler. I measured out all of the holes and drilled the valance for the 6mm studs in the spoiler. I got the front studs all lined up fine, then I had to really yank on the spoiler to get it to stretch over the sides of the valance (in the fender well) It took a lot of time with a rat-tail file opening up the holes to even get this far.

I finally got it on there but now there is a big bulge on the bottom of the spoiler, between the tow hook holes.

Any pointers on getting this sorted out? I'm usually pretty cool when it comes to this kind of stuff, but this is really trying my patience. The thing is a freaking PITA to take on and off.

Here is what I have now- you can see the bulge on the bottom (sort of) center. Is the spoiler hiked up too high on the valance or something? any help would be appreciated before the holes I drilled in the valance end up being 1'' dia.

Also, I am trying to figure out how these fog light delete pieces are held to the valance. One side plugs into the turn signal, but what about the other end?

Is the valance a aftermarket one or OEM? Looks like a belgium made Klokkerholm one to me....

Hey Jelmer, It should be Gen BMW. It was my understanding that it was BMW teile when I ordered from the vendor. It does have BMW panel labels on it. The spoiler is Gen BMW as well.

Ahh, I see you've been here before, Karl. Did you end up trimming the valance sides to fit the spoiler?

Im gonna double check all of the holes with the measurements in that link.

I put one of these brand new on my old 535is and if you look at the calendar photo for last month, you will notice mine fit perfectly. I'm not sure what happened there. The one on my 528i has the same problem yours does (btw, you will want to open those slots for the oil cooler). It is not normal and frankly trimming the valance should not be the solution. My valance on the current car is trashed, having been in an accident.

I think I might have the body shop do that if they can. (Paging Carnutdallas

) I don't know yet if I am going to paint it, but the bumper and valance definitely need paint.

Do most guys paint the spoiler?

Most do not. Are there those that have? Yes:

That said, your car is black and the spoiler in its unpainted form is black, so I don't think giving it a coat of paint will have quite the same effect as, say, the gray car above with the spoiler painted to match the rest of the car.

On M5s, the spoiler is not supposed to be painted body color.
