"Racing" Seat

Hello MyE28.com forums! I am 6'6" tall and in a relationship with a 1987 528e. It would be an understatement to say that headroom is non-existent. It has been suggested to me that I have a racing seat installed to increase headroom.

I am incredibly keen on this idea. Of course I want good value for the seat but far more important to me is attaining the absolute most clearance possible. There are a great many options on the site I have been perusing: andysautosport.com and I would like to know which seat the members of the MyE28 community would choose to get the results I desire.

Corbeau makes some nice and affordable seats, and they also make brackets for the E28 chassis. I've been looking into buying one and they seem like a good deal.

I have a big headroom problem as well and if you want to go the Recaro or similar route, you will want to use the universal sliders and a custom adapter bracket as the conventional installation system is not going to get you anywhere.

I have some Corbeau seats with their sliders and e28 brackets in my car and they definitely lower the driving position a lot. I'm only 5'8" so I actually had to add more padding under the bottom cushion so I could see over the wheel better.

I have Recaro SR3's in my M3, I have sat in a lot of different aftermarket seats, and I'm partial to Recaro. One consideration should be that most of the seats are going to be quite narrow, which won't be a problem for you if you're lean, if you're "not lean" you may have to focus your search on XL type seats.

i have recaros in both my e30 and shark and they are at least a inch lower then the stock sport seats in either car

i use e30 sport seat rails mounted directly to the 6 bolt bottom of the seat, for the e24/28 you need to widen the cross bar and i used a bolt of the right diameter to use as a spud and welded it, i guess through bolting would work in place of welding

a piece of angle iron works for the front mounting point, you use this piece to set the incline of the seat and when i did my e30 i made several holes to tweak the angle, this time i just made one where i liked it on the other set

2" piece of angle trimmed and ready

got both sets from this guy http://www.ebay.com/sch/nut.onlineshop1 ... 7675.l2562 a year or two apart, he usually has a set or two of the old school recaros up, takes about 3 months to arrive in the states

I have comfort seats in my 528i and also i have big problem with sitting.i need to find two sports seats to change with this comfort

Thank you for all the responses. I appreciate all of the wonderful information and especially the pictures. I know I'll make a much more informed decision. I am going to sit in as many of them as possible, and look long and hard at the brands suggested. Thank you all!
