I don't care what they're reasoning is, it's BS but apparently coupes will be even numbers, sedans odd. Not sure when the 2 series coupe is due.

Every day I wake up, I think to myself: Self, why does BMW only have 79 different products right now (as I counted on bmwusa.com)?? When are they going to get around to differentiating their products even further.

Well said both of you. I guess they'll continue to over expand until the walls cave in and their products are so watered down no one cares, much like their plethora of M models lately.

Do you guys really believe BMW is alone in making so many models you will not be able to pick the one you want in the future when you need one of these 79 models in good used condition?

With modern manufacturing, using computers and such, there is the ability to build a car exactly the way a customer wants, BMW Individual, except for here in the US were BMW Individual is only available for a few models.

I enjoy the days when the full line brochure had four models in it. No engine or trim choices. Two total motors. m10 and M30. Back when they apologized to E21 owners in 1980 for not making the power drivers mirror optional. Yee-haw.

Not only are models proliferating, but engine choices as well. At least it still has RWD and a manual gearbox available. I'm sure the 435i will still go like stink.

BTW I helped a friend change all vacuum lines on an N54 (I think? 2008 335i sedan) over the weekend. Two observations: my forearms now look like an emo teenagers, and good gracious is that engine bay tight! My skinny* runner arms were nearly too big to get to some of the hose ends.

welcome to my world cept i ain't got no pipe cleaners, the 35s SUCK to work on, try a serpentine belt for something thats a amazing pain in the ass and normal service item

But M5 still trumps them all, even if there is an M6, it just doesn't have the same effect as when you utter the word(?) M5. That is the one and only legacy.

I'm going to guess no, except maybe at the front of the motor. A significant portion of the real estate was consumed by turbos, downpipes, oil lines, etc. Still, water pump replacement on the turbo was a massive PITA too (I didn't do it, but I watched it being done).

On the other hand, using a laptop hooked up to the CAN bus to cycle all the brakes and ABS while bleeding was pretty cool.

Yep, took care of that by spinning a bearing. FS with spare long block if anyone is looking.

Good memory. 2 years and 1 month. It took me 14 months just drain the oil and check for sparkly brass bits. Yeah, I've been a little preoccupied, and will be with a few other projects in the near future.

FS with spare long block CHEAP if anyone is looking. Can deliver!
