What E28 ///M5 spare parts should you / do you carry?

I have a little extra budget this year for the car and am thinking of buying some extra parts. Giubo? Center support bearing? Clutch kit? I'm pretty sure I'm on the original clutch.

I already have a spare throttle cable, fuses, lights, Moosehead bushings, oil cap, and valve cover gasket/spark plug gaskets.

I know I'm not going to be replacing the clutch in the middle of West Virginia but am thinking of the parts that could be harder to get that would leave me stranded and that are hard to MacGyver.

I acknowledge that an ECU should be on that list but I'm optimistic that someone with good soldering skills could fix that.

All three belts
Replacement reference sensor
Exhaust gaskets (from headers to track pipe/cat section)
Coolant temp sensor
Expansion tank cap
Length of fuel line
Wire and Exhaust hangers
Spare fuel pump
Plenty of extra hose clamps in various sizes

The only thing that has disabled my M6 (so far) was a Bosch rotor that decided to self destruct and then break the cap too.

The only things to wreak havoc on the 535 or one of the e30's were voltage regulators, main relays, DME or CTS.

Not counting dead batterys because of dummies leaving a light on somewhere.

I won't be taking any roadtrips with you guys any time soon. If you're so afraid of getting your hands dirty maybe you should find a different hobby than old cars, say bird watching or flower arranging (NTTAWWT).

Something else that is handy ( for those of us that do our own repairs) is coveralls. I have some Air Force summer issue 'Flyers Coveralls'. You can buy 'em dirt cheap on Ebay. Go a couple of sizes larger than you normally wear so you can slip them on over whatever you have on.

Point being is that we have complete confidence in our cars.

I drove mine 10+ hours to Sebring and back last year and had a flat tire at Sebring. I drove to Ofest last summer 10+ hours to Columbus,Ohio and did a DE at Mid Ohio and the concours and then home again without a hiccup.

Having 'complete confidence' in your car because you've been lucky up until now is somewhat naive IMO. I don't care how well maintained it is, it's still a 25 year old car and besides, new parts fail too.
I've been lucky on my last two trips to Monterey and I'm hoping I'm lucky again this year but I'm still taking spare parts. I'm not going to spend two days at the Atascadero Motel 6 waiting on some bullshit part while my $250 a night room in Monterey sits empty. I'm just sayin...

Going to a meet called The Vintage end of May.
Trying to drive the (well my wife will) M5 and my new to me 3.0CS Coupe.
I worry about the coupe but will probably throw in a spare fan belt or two for the M5 and maybe a few others like some relays. You guys have quite a comprehesive list.

We are coming to Monterey and Ofest. Just not bringing one of my cars. I trust the car but my body would not take a 4 day drive. To expensive to ship. Approx $2500 RT.

We're hanging around a few extra days too. We'll have to try to get a dinner or lunch in there somewhere this year.

I had a fan clutch fail on me one year in PA at 5erFest, it was locked in the "on" position - noisy thing. I drove it halfway there and all the way back like that. And I'm sure that helped the water pump fail the next year, right after I pulled in the garage after a round trip to Tedfest, at the next startup. It wouldn't hurt to add those to the list and have those parts along - all that I have had fail on me.

At the least, carry a fan clutch wrench and it's compliment lever (whatever you call it) if you can wait a few days for the part to arrive wherever you are stuck.

It might've course cost more money, but part stores like O'Reilly and others do carry fan clutches believe it or not. Not the cheapest things but we got a Sachs clutch in an off-brand box for Eric Q's car in Reno at a Kragen (now O'Reilly).
