Interesting how in 1987 the 5er didn't get the upgraded cluster with the digital odometer but others clear did (shown in the photo). In a way, I'm very glad they didn't try to "improve it". I'm already looking forward to changing my LED panel in the E39 instrument cluster when I find some time. Not.

My 4-87 M6 did not have the upgraded cluster either.
As a matter of fact, I have never seen the upgraded gage cluster before.
Even on the '88 cars.

The digital ODOs were in the generation of BMWs after E23, E24, E28 and E30s. The E32 7er was the first released from that next generation and the only brand new vehicle in the brochure for 1987, as the rest were old models. The next generation cars (E31, E34, and E36) are the more logical models to compare technology and features against the E32.

The brochure makes it look like the E30 had the digital odo but that is the first shot for the E32 in the brochure, the only car with that digital odo in the brochure.

That's a funny mix of model years. E32s didn't come out until the 88 model year but it shows it. And M5's were 88 only. And there were 87 635s, not just L6's, along with 87 E23s. But 88 635s would have had the B35 engine and it shows B34 specs for the L6 which was correct for 87. So it's some, but not all 87's, with a couple of 88's thrown in for good measure. No wonder I've seen manuals with oddball specs for transition years.
