No kidding! I never have understood why some folks call voices like that "smoky/sultry" or whatever, and I especially despise the whiny-valleygirl-raspy voices that are used in many tv and radio ads these days.

Let's face it guys...Playboy and many other "men's mags" have made a lot of money selling heavily airbrushed photos of women. Kathy Griffin could never have enough airbrushing for me. I love her comedy schtick, for the most part, but her voice does grate on the nerves.

Daryl Hannah rocks and always has...fortunately she never went for the "ass tatoo" (lower back tatoo) that is so in vogue with today's college-age women (and porn stars). In my day it was small tatoos of fish and other sea creatures just below the ankle. WTF happened?

Did anyone ever see the SNL spoof "Dr. Turlington's Lower Back Tattoo Remover" featuring resident comedienne Amy Pohler and comedian Chris Parnell ? Hilarious!!!

If there are folks here who've never seen her early 1982 low-budget movie - "Summer Lovers" - filmed in the Greek Isles...it helps explain why so many guys from my generation LOVED her then and now. Too bad that Daryl allowed Jackson Browne to beat her a$$ when they were in a relationship (mid '90s?). Fortunately, I believe that chapter is long over....

Ah yes, the Tramp Stamp. I liked it when a friend of mine got one back in 1997 ... was very small and I thought it was hot. Then it became de rigeur for every stripper and porn star, and I've not been much of a fan since.

For the record...I don't mind them so much either (tatts) but if I have my druthers...prefer my women clean shaven, fresh out of the shower, sans tattoo(s) and other "body art". I like that term..."tramp stamp." If you haven't watched the SNL clip I attached...check it out. Hilarious and true. I know a few 40+ y/o women with tatts from the 80s (below the ankle, butt cheek, scapula region) who can still work them to good effect but I'd hate to see how those damned things have weathered in about 10-15 years. LOL!

Professionally, I've treated a lot of now geriatric former servicement in V.A. Hospitals who got "war tattoos" on their forearms and bicepts back in the 1940s and 1950s. Interestingly enough...many of the designs have sagges, blurred, and distorted over the years to the point that the associated script is often unintelligible. Bottom line...I don't want to see that on my geriatric woman's A$$ LOL...

Shawn, wanted to affirm how much I agree with you on this one. I thought
I was the only one who was turned off by these annoying types of voices!
To add to your description "whiny-valleygirl-raspy", I would add that the
voices also remind me of that bitchy, party-girl persona. The "I only smoke
cigarettes at parties when I drink" (but when she does, she inhales
half a pack!) and then as a result, the raspyness in her voice doesn't
sound sexy, it sounds like she stayed out all night and woke up on the
floor of someone strange guy's apartment. At least that's the image that
comes to my mind because I identify that voice with so many girls I knew
in college who personified this.

Anyway .... yes, I have also noticed the alarming number of these voices
that are in advertisements lately, particularly radio. They drive me nuts.

On the topic of the raspy voice thing... I'm a little different, to me i really don't mind. As long as whatever she is saying is annoying. I don't want to hear anything about some product on the radio or a wacky morning DJ's screaming laugh, i want to hear A: Something funny B: Well, use your imagination.

I thought it was Sunfighter ... but it was late 1970 ... and I was a freshman in college, having totally missed Woodstock the year before. But along with the Airplane, their opening act, ShaNaNa, and The Who about a year later, I caught three of those acts anyway. Total cost for two for those two shows was $18. ~0
