Tire brand question / poll. (more)

I will be buying some 225/45/17's soon for the style 32's. I want to keep the $$ that I put in the tires down as much as possible. What (in your view) is the best tire brand for the money and what do you like/dislike about them.

Also,

Anyone happen to know the tirerack part # for the hubcentric rings?

can't say enough about the Falken Beta 451's, great dry and wet traction, not worth a damn in the snow but they are a great tire, or any of the other Falkens too....all great tires for the $$....Discount Tire has the best prices on them...I am on my 3rd or 4th set now.....good tires and good mileage....

I'll throw in a vote for Falken tires too. I've had a couple sets of 502's, I was very happy with performance and wear. I'm mounting Yoko AVS Sports today, but I got those on the cheap from Turner Motorsports thanks to the sharp eyes of another board member, otherwise it would be another set of Falkens.

I too have the Falken Azenis and really like'm a lot! Very good on the twisty roads around here and great in the rain as well. Quite tires too.

I have the Falken Ziex 512's. fwiiw, Consumer Reports #1 for all season. Since I can't afford dedicated snow tires, I went with these. I've had them for a little over a year with only one complaint. Good in rain and on dry pavement. OK in snow.
My only complaint is that in the cold, < 36, they tend to flat spot overnight.

I don't buy tires base solely on price. I tend to stick towards the mid-range and place overall wet/dry performacce high on ythe list. In Houston, wet performance is a high priority for me. If a tire hydroplans below 60 mph in moderate/heavy Houston downpours it's substandard in my book.

The best tires I've ever had from a wet performance standpoint are the European market Pirelli P7000 Supersports and the Continental ContiContact All Season Touring.

I have Bridgetsone RE730s mounted on the ALPINA wheels which were on the 533i and now on the M5. They're good, but expensive and noisy. IIRC, this tire is NLA and has been superseded by the RE750.

I've had Michelins of various types over the years, but feel they're overpriced for what you get.

I had Yokohama YK420s on the Volvo and they wore out too soon and didn't meet my hydroplaning standards.

Rich, are we twins or something? I just bought some Style 32s and also will be putting on 225x45x17 tires. I will be purchasing the BF Goodrich g-force Sport, they got pretty good reviews on the tire rack and cost $98 each.

Rich Euro M5...I respectully disagree with your assessment of the Contis. I had them on my Jetta and didn't like them. Their dry traction was not very good and they felt a little soft.

I forgot to mention, the Continentals are mounted on the Brick.

I doubt I push the Brick as hard as you do the Jetta. My Brick (Volvo Turbo Wagon) is a dreadnaught class auto. Think driving a bus as far as dynamics, has hellacious body roll until it takes a set. With 260K miles and mostly original suspension, steering rack, springs, most bushings, you'd probably not push it hard enough to notice any dry tire traction issues either.

Currently running Pirelli P7000s - the European NON M+S versions as Rich is.

Recently drove an E36 with the new P Zeros .. and was very impressed.

A little pricier than some of the others but wear well and don't go 'off' towards the end of their life cycle.
