Scotch anyone?

Forget all this other crap. Let us discuss something that is worth while.

What scotch whiskey do you really like?
I am not any kind of aficionado but I have enjoyed a few and I thought this might be a good group for scotch.

$50-60
I really like Oban, nice and peaty.
I also like Johnnie Walker Gold.

$30
Speyburn 10 year is quite nice and easier on the wallet.

Ill take mine on the rocks, water back.

Personally, any double malt scotch whisky suits me just fine, laddy.

now you are talking. A matter dear to my heart. I enjoy 1 or 2 drams now and again, but honestly can't kick back and drink whiskey like beer (Ie, ONLY 1 or 2, 1 oz shots is enough for me). Check out Micheal Jackson book on whiskey. I went to Scotland in Sept and visited Oban's distill. Very nice. Only a couple of favorites, only a couple dislikes (scapa for one).
I've been trying american bourbons lately, as the real scotish stuff gets expensive. I like Bullett for an easy drink.
If you really want a velvet hammer, try a boiler maker with Guiness and your favorite whiskey. In my case this is a guiness with a shot of Laphroig in it. Sip it carefully as it can kick your ass as easily as cross your lips!

Lagavulin 16 Y.O. is the only scotch. Best when paired with a cigar.

heh heh, if you're a pourin, I'm a drinking. Never met a single malt I didnt like. But that applies to just about any distilled spirit. I drink the stuff neat. #1 son is in Ireland for a short visit. He was instucted to return with a liter of 12 yr old Jamisons

My preferences:

Anything from Bowmore, esp. the "Cask Strength." Lots of peaty flavour.

Laphroaig for a non-Bowmore.

If its got a hint of sweetness, I can't stomach it.

I have a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue label, nice and smooth! Kepp on sipping it!

My best bottle though is Aberlour a'bundah. Non chill-filtered, Single speyside malt (watever that means?)

BTW for you Irish out there, I have a bottle of Bushmills Millenium Malt. This is a Private Cask bottle number 49/130 distilled in 1975 bottleled in 2000 hince the moniker. 25 years in the barrel makes for good stuff!

Blue Label:
I purchased a bottle of Blue Label and unfortunately I am not that impressed with it. It could be my pallet is not trained enough but frankly I think it is a bit too smooth and featureless. I guess I like the peat and for 100$+ for Blue I can get two bottles of other stuff. Just my taste I guess.

Speyside is the region of Scotland from which the scotch originates- I believe.

Lagavulin is as good as it gets!!!

Talisker is alright as a second choice, but not nearly as smooth and smoky.

You are correct Sir, it is smooth, but it does lack peat. I venture to guess you like that flavor. I do too at times and when I crave it I go for Bowmore.
I drink mine on the rocks too with just a splash. Helps open up the flavors!
