For all- my first impression is that this is a real a deal as it gets without serious weight and construction.
I can jump on it with all my might (I am 200 lbs) and can see no deflection or damage. Tomorrow, I will jump off my desk onto it. I am slightly worried about how low it is going to hang below the car, but I guess Ill find out on Friday.

You two jabberin' about trying to break that stupid skid plate remind me of what I got to play with today.
I sometimes feel kinda like a dentist working in a hospital, if you know what I mean. It's a similar job, but the pieces don't quite fit properly.
I learned sheetmetal in Tech School, and the jet we have at this base is NOT MADE OF SHEETMETAL. Therefore, every chance I get to play with sheetmetal here in the shop, I jump on it.
Today, I had the explicit pleasure of going over to the sheetmetal shop for a few minutes to work on something, and, piled on the manual foot shear, I found a SHITLOAD of titanium.
Well, it wasn't really a shitload, but it was a good bit. It was about 10 or 12 4" x 9" pieces of 1/8" thick titanium. Okay, so I've played with 0.050" thick titanium in Tech School, and that stuff is impossible to bend. Imagine something more than TWICE that thickness.
That stuff is HEAVY, too. Anyone that claims titanium is light is just plain wrong and doesn't know the first thing about the stuff. Titanium is strong as pretty much anything out there. Because it's strong, you can use a much thinner piece of titanium for a given job than you would aluminum or some other type of softer metal. Therefore, the thinner titanium WILL BE lighter than the thicker aluminum of same or slightly lesser strength.
Anyway, my point is: wouldn't it be cool if that skid plate was made of titanium? You could make it super thin -- and therefore super light -- and you wouldn't be able to break or bend the damned thing for ANYTHING. It's titanium, so it's somewhat resistive to corrosion.
The only problem is price. . .
